Before Everything Changes

Connor knows that the best thing to do before leaving is to give Anna a few minutes alone with their son. He had his time to talk to him, even if Liam isn’t responding just yet, and he has already said his goodbyes for the next couple of weeks. Plus he knows that they’ll be calling as often as possible to check up on him and their families. Once he’s downstairs and has everything in the car, he steps back in to see Anna bringing Liam downstairs. He can tell with just one glance at her that she’s feeling emotional about leaving their son, so he steps over and places a comforting hand on her lower back. Liam smiles at everyone like he always does and he knows that he’s in safe hands. His mother-in-law steps forward to take Liam and looks at the boy. “Tell them to have a fun trip, pojanpoika.” Running his hand up and down Anna’s back, he hopes that the next few minutes don’t break her. As much as he wants to take their son with them, he’s sure that they both know that they’ll need to spend time away from him now or later. Liam looks at Anna with wider eyes as if he’s starting to suspect that she’ll be leaving and Connor presses a kiss to his head quickly before letting Anna say goodbye again. “We’ll call,” he says when he turns to Callum and talks for a few moments about their plans, his brother reassuring him without reason that they’ll all take care of Liam. “I know. We both know that, and Liam will take care of you. You won’t be bored here with him around.” Laughing softly, he glances at Anna to see if she’s ready to leave. “The car’s waiting.” He doesn’t want to rush her, but it’s probably best that they get to the car where she can relax on their way to their flight.

Her eyes meet with Connor's when she gets downstairs but she tries to contain herself. She never imagined how hard any of this would be as difficult as it is. But then his hand is on her lower back and she knows that her husband is trying to comfort her before they leave. Anna buries her face in Liam's hair, nuzzling him a bit before her mother comes to take him out of her arms. She smiles tightly at the woman in front of her then nods. Her eyes meet her son's and she has to turn away before she packs up a bag for him to take him with them. "Be a good boy. And let us know if he gives you any trouble, though I know all of you could handle it." To avoid making herself feel any more emotional, she bypasses hugs from everyone which is slightly unusual for her. Anna moves towards the door and waits while Connor talks to Callum, staring at her son for a few moments before glancing at the floor. She nods when he says that the car is waiting then grabs her purse. "We'll be back in a few weeks. Love you all." Moving out the door, she quickly moves to the car and gets in without waiting for Connor, taking a deep breath to try and calm herself. Once the car door shuts, she doesn't look at him but speaks quietly. "I'm sorry if I was rude. If I didn't make myself leave, we wouldn't be having a vacation."

Before Everything Changes

Connor can’t believe how much life can change in the matter of a few years. When he met Anna, he knew she was a Princess and he had been serving royalty long enough to know what sort of life came with that title, but he was just a guard who shouldn’t even be speaking to her unless she wanted to talk to him first. That didn’t stop him from wanting to get to know her, though, but he had never expected that he would one day be King alongside her. He can’t remember what exactly he expected to happen between them, only that he needed to know her and then they were together and they both let their walls down and let the other one into their lives and hearts. Now the day to become King has come. Not the literal day because they’re still a while away from that, but she was officially going to be crowned Queen and he would be right there next to her to be King of Finland. Their son would be Prince of Finland and one day King himself. His blood had become royal blood and it was still something he was trying to wrap his head around. Looking down at Liam, he rocks the chair gently and smiles as their son reaches up and grasps his finger. “You’re going to be a strong Prince, my son.”

He hears some movement just outside of the room and he knows that Anna is hurrying around the room to finalize everything they’ll be taking with them on their vacation. He lifts his head and sees her crossing over into the nursery. Liam’s eyes move over to her and he sees the way the baby’s eyes light up at the sight of his mother. “This little Prince is just fine,” he says with a smile at his wife. “He’s just spending a few minutes talking guy stuff with me. Are you all ready, vaimo?” When Anna tells him that she has everything packed and then asks if he wants to bring Liam, he looks at her for a moment, because he’s sure she knows that he would love to take Liam on vacation with them. They both know they need this trip to be alone before their lives change even more than they had with the birth of their son. Noticing her tears, he sighs softly and stands with Liam still in his arms. “We’ll be back before he knows it.” The words are out of his mouth before he can stop them, and he hopes that they comfort her instead of upsetting her even further. “He’ll be fine, Goldilocks.” He steps forward and kisses her gently before letting her hold Liam and he smiles when the boy cuddles into her. “I’ll make sure the bags are in the car, okay? You take a few minutes with him.”

It had looked like Connor was deep in thought but it didn't phase her any. She loves seeing her two boys together and it's something that completely warms her heart. "Guy stuff, huh? What does our Prince have to say?" Anna smiles at them and she knows by the look that he gives her that Connor would love to bring their son. But she knows that they need this time alone. He's reminded her of it but then she's looking at her baby and it's like her anxiety levels raise. When he stands up, she just watches them and tries to will her tears away. "I know but it's going to feel so long for me. We haven't left him for weeks." Anna kisses him back then takes their son into her arms. Smiling down at him, she kisses his forehead and watches as her curls up against her. "Are you sure? They're coming up to get them. We should spend as much time with Liam as we can." Her eyes move to his but then she realizes that he is willing to give her some time with their son before they leave.

Sitting down in the chair that Connor was once in, her hand smooths over Liam's hair and she laughs when he grasps her finger just like he was doing with his father moments before. "Did you and daddy have a good conversation? Stuff mama shouldn't know about?" she teases before running her hand over his belly once he releases her finger. It still amazes her how much love she feels for the boy in her arms and how his eyes light up when she's with him. It's something that makes her extremely happy. Standing up, she moves into the bedroom with him and looks around for any last minute things before she heads downstairs to meet Connor and their family. Anna was extremely glad that Connor's mother and Callum came to help watch their son while they were away. As she reaches the lobby, she sees everyone talking and she clears her throat though she feels her eyes starting to sting from the tears that are threatening to spill over. "Are you sure you guys can handle this little monster while we're gone?" Anna turns Liam in her arms and she laughs when he coos at everyone.

Before Everything Changes

Anna zips up the final suitcase that is laying on their bed before putting her hands on her hips and surveying the room. Her eyes move to their nightstands to the dresser then the closet. While her eyes move along the various areas, she crosses things off the mental list inside her mind. After nodding to herself, she moves to their desk and looks at the actual list then begins to check things off of there before calling down for them to pick up the luggage. Moving into their son's room, she finds Connor and Liam in her rocking chair and smiles. These small moments keep her nerves down, thinking of their future and what's going to happen in a few weeks, it's these moments that help her know that it's for the best. Soon they will be the King and Queen of Finland and Liam will be taking her place. 

Moving into the room, she pushes those feelings away and smiles when Liam notices that she's there. "Hi, baby." Kneeling down on the ground, she leans forward and brushes his soft hair back before kissing his cheek. "How is my little Prince doing?" Looking up, she smiles at Connor then moves to kiss his cheek as well. "All of the bags are packed and they should be grabbing them shortly. Are we sure we don't want to bring Liam?" Her eyes move to Connor's and holds them there for a minute before looking down at her cooing child. "We're going out of town for a couple of weeks, my Prince. Mummo, Pappa, avoa, and uncle Callum are going to take care of you." Anna's eyes start to water a bit and she stands up, taking a deep breath. The thought of leaving their child for some relaxing time is hard for her even though she knew that this was going to happen.

I think I was drawn to comedy originally because when I was really young, by the time I was eight I had seen movies like The Jerk, Animal House, and Planes, Trains & Automobiles with my dad, and I knew them by heart…I loved them and my dad loved them, and we would laugh together, and I would think, ‘This is love.’ I just wanted to make people feel like that.
