Listen, I’m part of the generation that uses humor to cope, I love all the memes about 2020 just as much as you guys do. I laugh at the “we got the real roaring 20′s”, “we wanted 2020 to be a movie but we got the wrong genre”, “we really thought 2020 would be our year” sardonic tweets.
But to the people like me, who really thought 2020 would be their year?
Love, I’m so sorry. I’m so sorry you walked into this year with a smile and hope, and that smile immediately fell, and that hope was immediately crushed
I’m sorry that every day there’s something else, I’m sorry that you’re scared, I’m sorry that you’re angry, I’m sorry that you’re tired.
And I know, I know that you’re having a hard time hoping again. Trust me, I know.
But this year, Adam Castillejo became the second person to be cured of HIV
This year, James Patterson art up a fund to help Indie bookstores
This year, scientists finally managed to record the narwhal
This year, White Storks have hatched the first wild chicks in 600 years
This year, the worlds largest open-air gallery was opened with paintings by individuals with learning disabilities
This year, an eleven year old skateboarder landed the worlds first 1080 degree turn
This year, scientists mapped the entire surface of the moon for the first time ever
This year, Sweden and Austria closed their last coal plants
This year, White Tailed Eagles are spotted flying over England for the first time in 240 years
This year, NASA launched astronauts to a US space station for the first time since 2011
To all the people like me, who thought 2020 was their year: We’re here. We’re alive. The world will grow. The world will heal. Maybe 2020 isn’t our year of stress free fun and memories, but it can be our year to learn and stand up and fight, so that next year? We get everything we hoped for.
Don’t give up, don’t leave. There’s a world waiting for you.
If you are outside India, I am practically begging you to reblog this
Last week India passed a blatantly anti-Muslim law that seeks to naturalise millions of immigrants, except if they are Muslims.
In August of this year, India revoked the autonomous status of the Kashmir region, putting a communication blackout on the state. Kashmir has entered the fifth month of no internet and heaviest militarisation of any region in the world.
India is a secular, socialist republic. This bill is anti-constitutional and against the principles on which the country was founded
Naturally, there have been protests across the country. At the forefront of the protests are students from India's public universities.
Police opened fire on peaceful protestors in Jamia Milia Islamia University in Delhi, and Aligarh Muslim University in Uttar Pradesh.
Ever since then, the ruling fascist Hindu nationalist political party, the BJP, has been doctoring videos and sending fake news all over the internet, discrediting protestors and labelling them as terrorists
India has already seen too much religious violence, please please signal boost this, call your representatives, make them aware, get them to make statements. The only thing India and its dictator Modi care about is its image abroad
This post is dated December, 2019 so a little update (June, 2020) since I’ve seen it on my dash a lot lately:
Amidst the raging pandemic and our Government’s botched handling of it, GOI has found the time to book student activists under a draconian “anti terrorism” law called the UAPA.
Here’s a brief article about what exactly the UAPA is here. It was written in October last year so it’s before all of this, but it highlights the ways it could be misused, and why it’s a cause for concern.
Here’s another article about the same. Has proved prophetic, because our government NEVER fails to let us down!
Many student activists have been booked under UAPA, like Natasha Narwal and Devangana Kalita. Safoora Zargar, who is pregnant, has been jailed despite concerns about COVID-19 (and this being entirely under an unlawful law).
Here’s a quick twitter thread with the names of other activists booked under UAPA.
[Oh btw, in a completely different story, no charges have been made against those suspected of inciting violence at JNU. It’s under investigation, which sounds promising, but uh, we’ve seen what’s happened in the past. There’s not really a lot of hope there.]
While there are scattered protests about this, and some mild coverage from very few news channels, and people have talked about it a little, it’s been lost under all the noise of the pandemic, the migrant crisis, cyclones, locust invasion and other horrors hitting the country right now. Please, please, PLEASE raise awareness about this.
Black people often have a habit of complaining about their hair type, it's completely understandable though, kinky curly hair is an absolute hassle and feels like your in a boxing ring trying to get your hair to behave. However, why don't we ever talk about our kinky hair in a good light? Like my bitch can defy gravity and has the ability to copy any hairstyle, straight, curly, etc! Who else is going it like kinky curly hair and making us look beyond beautiful by puffing up like a cloud and making us look like the God and Goddess we are? Kinky curly hair is actually out here making us look like pieces of heaven.
So yes, kiny curly hair is a bitch but make sure you put baddest in front of it cause nobody doing it like her.
this deserves to be seen everywhere, and reposted on every blog. this man deserves justice, and the police men responsible need to be held accountable. they murdered a helpless man on the streets and are able to sit comfortably in their homes.
it’s 2020 and nothing has changed.
ENOUGH IS ENOUGH.

26 Letters for 26 Years of Life and 26 Things to describe Sehun
Another year just passed by like that, another year to be able to witness how much you have grown as a person and how much you have achieved as an artist. From debuting in EXO, to gracing the pages of several magazines, to receiving solo awards, to being casted in movie and drama productions, to being a set cast member of a variety show and to debuting again in EXO’s 2nd subunit. Over all these years we were able to get to know who Oh Sehun is and although it’s possible to describe you with these above-mentioned traits, there is so much more to you because you are also ambitious, beautiful, caring, down-to-earth, expressive, funny, genuine, hard-working, intelligent, joyful, kind, loyal, mesmerizing, nonchalant, outgoing, playful, quick-witted, responsible, sassy, thoughtful, unique, voguish, warm-hearted, youthful and zealous among many other things. Nonetheless, there are not enough letters in the alphabet, not enough existing words, to be able to describe what an amazing and wonderful person you are. I wish for you to be happy, to be loved and to be healthy on this special day and on all days to come. I hope you can enjoy this wonderful day to the fullest. I love you and Happy Birthday! #HappySehunDay
a gentle reminder that life is about making every day as meaningful and comforting as you can, it’s not about comparing yourself to people or needing to be perfect. it’s good to push yourself to be better but perfectionism can be harmful if you overdo it. you don’t have to hate yourself or constantly criticize your progress or appearance to force yourself to become who you hope to be. it’s good to be ambitious but not everyone works best under self-imposed strictness, harsh criticism and pressure. sometimes it takes kindness, honesty and patience towards yourself, rather than having a harsh inner voice that has a pretense of being realistic and helpful. the less you listen to it, the quieter it will become. you can be realistic and still treat yourself gently and with patience. life can be a lot more bearable when you’re on your own side.

❝ once you’ve met someone you never really forget them. it just takes a while for your memories to return. ❞
Life doesn’t end at 23. 30 isn’t old. Fetishising youth as the ultimate desirable characteristic in a person is actively harmful to both young and old people. Some of us lost our teenage years to abuse and recovery, and can only begin living when we’re at a different life stage. Literally knock it off, the lot of you.
When u wake up and ur teddy bear is on the floor
healing isn’t something you get better at every day. it’s ok if you think you changed but then you fall down again, it’s normal to have hundreds of attempts at new beginnings. you don’t have to expect yourself to outperform yesterday if it’s too overwhelming. don’t put a huge pressure on yourself to be perfect. be patient - no one gets it right the first few tries, and you don’t have to either. if you’re trying, you’re doing well, and I’m proud of you.
