I've been playing with air-dry clay as a drawing material, on grey paper and on the wall. tests for an exhibition later this year, Self-Portrait as Shared Dream, curated by Gemma Weston.
I only started back in the studio today after several hectic weeks of making my âStay/Keepâ work - lots of repetitive, labour-intensive tasks - followed by post-show exhaustion/sickness. It was good. It was a new breath.
Taking inspiration from the illustrations in The Girlsâ Handbook, we found a secret place near our studio and made some decorative fires. The site provided an abundance of rocks, as well as pine needles, cones and branches. We adapted the traditional methods in several different ways, playing with form, structure and materials. Our clothes filled with the smell of wood smoke. We were very happy.
I am currently doing a residency as part of Snapcat, a collaboration with Renae Coles. We are making fires, boats, words and music, among other things!
I tattooed Carla and Mardi. I mixed a nice peach colour for Mardiâs, & it turned out great.
