charles melton looking for his daughter is an idealised version of sophie's father, hence the complete artificialness of his night avenger story that feels like a parody of a specific type of a racist noir/neo-noir film that takes place in chinatown or mexico and has a white detective/policeman/soldier trying to bring the law to lawless barbaric ppls (the amount of times that characters spit on the ground or light a match off of their body should be enough of a hint. charles melton and sophie's dad do it identically). next, mirror skype & naked woman lighter connection, charles melton saves a girl who's been human trafficked and wears a giant chain on her neck while sophie is seen playing with a chain bracelet in the beginning of the movie and is later collared by her stepmom. charles melton's avengerisms are directly paralleled with leatherman (=sophie's dad) stalking and killing girls in the mist, effectively whitewashing the truth. he switches his army uniform for a LEATHER jacket with a chainmail detail that reminds us of another masculine and falsely heroic archetype -- a knight. in the end when they finally meet and fight it out, sophie accepts that her father has always been been both and maybe even finds love for him but also realises that she will never be that girl again. and in a sort of a red riding hood fashion she has to cut her little self out from her father's body but she is still irreversibly changed by this experience and her father remains a part of her and is woven into her happier and sadder memories because he is been an instigator of both
