Anna Porter Public Library has a lot of amazing events coming soon! One event including our Sherlock Holmes Murder Mystery Night! Join Sherlock for an evening of mystery and fun at the Library of London (Anna Porter Public Library) beginning at 6 p.m., Saturday, May 27th. You must be 13 years or older to participate. Sign-ups for the event are located at the front desk of the library.

Are you interested in rock-n-roll? Do you enjoy watching performances from large screens with bluetooth speakers? Than you will love the experience of viewing a free screening of Amanda Palmer and the Grand Theft Orchestra this next Thursday at 3:30 p.m. located at Anna Porter Public Library!

This screening was provided  by Lincoln Center Local through Lincoln Center Education and will continue to be a free service to libraries! There will be several more opportunities to enjoy free screenings of performances here at APPL. We will also be serving popcorn! Please join us for this fun event if you can!

We just wanted to inform everyone of the gorgeous flowers we have blooming outside our happy library in Gatlinburg, TN. It that time of year again! Time to get outside and work on the garden, go for a hike or jog, and read a book or two about the proper way to do these things!

You can find books about the world’s brightest season located here in Anna Porter Public Library!  We even have set aside a front section for some of our best books about the Smoky Mountains in Spring, and all about our pretty wildflowers. Happy, Spring.

“Gatlinburg, TN, November 28, 2016″ Painting Prints Available for Sale

Good Afternoon!

Anna Porter Public Library here to inform you that a local artist, Anne Fontaine, has given the library permission to sell prints of her painting depicting the catastrophic events of the fires in Gatlinburg that occurred on November 28, 2016.  All of the proceeds will be donated to local animal shelters. 

The prints are available for sale in 11′x17′ for $15,  and 16′x20′ for $35. The sale should last until most, if not all, prints are sold. We are in hopes that art will help us all cope through the disaster the fires caused during, and after their destruction to our beautiful mountainous home.

Anna Porter Public Library here to let our patrons (and internet friends) know that we have quite the selection of mystery reads!

We have classic authors ranging from Agatha Christie to Sir Arthur Conan Doyle, as well as authors with a more modern  twist such as Tara French and Jo Nesbo!

February is known for being Black History Month across the United States and Anna Porter Public Library did not want to miss out on an opportunity to celebrate and reflect on the struggles, the strength, and the heart it took to regard all people as equal here in America. 

Featured here is our Black History section at the front of Anna Porter Public Library. We have books encompassing our very first African American President, Barack Obama, the famous Martin Luther King Jr., the brave but humble Rosa Parks, and many others who fought the good fight to create a more free America. 

We also included a book or two written by successful black authors of today’s generation, and a look into the history of how slavery was abolished and the struggles of the Civil Rights Movement. 

Please come by and educate yourself on our history in the United States at Anna Porter Public Library!

Hello, Friends!

Porter the Library Cat here to just let you know that the weather may be unpredictable and I like to be that way too! Normally, I am a very friendly library cat, but I don’t generally hang out in people’s laps. I have things to do and sunbeams to lay in!

But hey, I have a heart!  And today, one of our favorite patrons, Sue Maslow looked like she could use my loving kitty cat services. Come sit by our new book section like Sue and you might just find me there ready to snuggle and offer all the love I can.

BEST BOOKS OF 2016

Anna Porter Public Library here to fill you in about how our Best Books of 2016 section has grown since the last time we posted! This year, we have included a nonfiction section with subjects about memoirs, animals, art, current politics, and all sorts of other interesting real life topics.

We also have our tradition adult fiction section with some past favorite authors including: Tana French, Harlan Coben, Michael Connelly, James Patterson,  and many more! The fiction section has the usual favorite genres as well, including: mystery, crime, and family struggles.

It’s supposed to snow this weekend in Gatlinburg, TN so stop in at Anna Porter Public Library and pick up one of our best books so you have something great to read while the roads are iced!

Hello, Anna Porter Public Library here to tell you about all the fun we had with our arts and crafts folks this week!

These crafty ladies had a blast working with water colors during their Older Adults Arts and Crafts session on Wednesday morning! Featured here are several of our regular patrons having a go at something new. The painting activity’s purpose was to “paint yourself calm”, which is an art project many residents of Gatlinburg, TN should try since the fire disaster in November has upset and stressed quite a few of us beyond measure.

The ladies painted their own interpretations of a beach with sea shells, a waterfall, and many more fun subjects! Some even have given the staff permission to exhibit their artwork in our library! Many commented that they had fun and felt much more relaxed afterwards. We played soothing music as well which included ocean and rain sounds. The class began with a few stretching poses, and then off with the creative brain flow!

If you are 50 years or older, live in Sevier, County, and are looking for a fun and free artistic group to join, than you may want to consider signing up for our monthly Older Adults Arts and Crafts program! Next month’s pottery program is full but we always have a waiting list and often have room to spare for another participant!

Hello, Library Friends!

It’s me, Porter the Library Cat here to enlighten you all about me and my history in Anna Porter Public Library! I am a very fluffy and sweet kitty cat that has been living and working in Gatlinburg’s public library for a while now. 

I am the best greeter around. Other places have tried to hire me before, but there were too many legal issues due to people being allergic to cats and such. But! I love it here  at Anna Porter Public Library, and you will too if you stop by! Our friendly staff is always here to help you to their best abilities.

Plus, you have me to come see and pet! You can usually find me either by a window, laying in a sunny spot, in the staff room (ask our staff very nicely if you'd like to see me then-I’m usually feeling a bit “peopled” out by then), or in my basket at the front desk. By my basket is a short explanation of my history in case you are interested to know more about me.

So please stop by and see me at Anna Porter Public Library!
