Arrow and Annabelle had been together damn close to three years now. He liked to think they knew everything about each other, the good and the bad. The fact that he could tell her feelings by her chemosignals was an added bonus, but sometimes… He felt like he was missing something. Something important. Sometimes… It was like there was this person that he didn’t know, standing so close to him but just out of his reach. He tried to ignore that thought, though. A selfish, selfish thing to do.

He hadn’t been expecting anyone so late, especially not Annabelle. They’d both been so busy with things lately it seemed like they saw less and less of each other, the two of them too tired to meet up half the time. Classes were starting soon, something Arrow both looked forward to and dreaded. 5sos’ music career was gaining more traction and it seemed like three of them would have to make some decisions regarding their education, soon.

Opening the door, his brows furrowed in concern and confusion at the state of her. Distress was coming off her in waves, the scent of anxiety bitter and radiating from her more so than it had in ages. “Belle.. What’s up? What’s wrong? Come on in.” He murmured, immediately ushering her inside.

Annabelle took a deep breath as she waited for the door to open, hoping that he was alone. Though hard, it would be that much easier if no one else was around. She took in a sharp breath when the door started to open, trying to smile up at him in an effort to mask her thoughts. But then she saw that it was just Arrow, knowing he could tell when she was faking a mile away. She shook her head, arms wrapped around her torso as she stepped in, around him. “I... I don’t know.” She muttered, willing for her eyes to stop welling up so soon.

She looked around, though she didn’t have super hearing like he did, but she didn’t spot anyone else. “Are you alone? No one else here? I really don’t need the guys popping out.” She said, feeling a tear run down her cheek. She sighed, turning on her heel and heading for the couch, plopping down on it. “You’re gonna hate me.” She muttered, not looking up at him.

For the past few weeks, Annabelle hated herself. She knew what she had to do; for her sake and for Arrows. She knew once it happened, she would feel less horrible about herself. She knew that once Arrow heard her out, he’d understand in the end. But, that didn’t make the walk to his house any less hard. It wasn’t like she woke up one day and instantly knew what she had to do. No, for the first few days when these feelings started to creep up on her, she tried to push them away, tell herself she was just confused; that their relationship was in limbo because they were both busy with their separate summer activities. But as the days went on and the thoughts and feelings didn’t go away, she knew that wasn’t the whole truth. She knew it was all on her.

As she rehearsed what she was going to say in her head, she could already feel herself tearing up. The main reason why she wasn’t wearing any make-up, she had an inkling how this talk was going to go. She didn’t want Arrow to hate her. Of course, he would probably not be her biggest fan for some time, and that she understood. But Arrow was one of her best friends; someone she could confide in, together or not. And she was really hoping after today that wouldn’t change.

Finding herself standing in front of his door she paused. Was she really about to break the only man she ever loved’s heart? She really didn’t want to. The last thing she wanted to do was to hurt Arrow. But in order for her to feel happier, she had. With one last deep breath she raised her hand, knocking on the door and preparing for the inevitable.
