OK MY THOUGHTS ARE STILL HAZY BUT LIKE (dlc spoilers below)

-the opening shot of prisoner in a pit and soldier standing above them... soldier is in a position of power here that prisoner isn't. despite that, soldier seems to genuinely care about prisoner, asking about their well-being and offering them her coat.

-at the same time, soldier is pursued by the flamethrower soldier- though, the flamethrower soldier was shooting and burning any living thing it came across. it was probably sent to clean up the battle and leave no survivors

-also, soldier covers the rabbit graffiti with a propaganda poster... is there some kind of cover-up operation going on? -soldier just diving into the belly of the bloater was very funny. so anyone can travel through the bodies, not just sniffer?

-the little kid-sized soldier cutout in the mall. eugh. ugh. oh goddd

-prisoner is the one to get the camera. why are they imprisoned? my theory right now is that they saw something they weren't supposed to see and the army captured them. maybe they were trying to expose the cover-up, or just incidentally happened to be in the wrong place at the wrong time

-in the opening, soldier tells prisoner that they're going to freeze to death. later on, prisoner starts emitting a cold aura. it's like when girl started feeling nauseous... the past is catching up to them. could it be that they froze to death while soldier watched?

-on that note i'm also thinking about how photographs are moments frozen in time

-and the spider kids... we never get confirmation that they ever "grow up", huh? they're stuck as the forms they're in when the mother gives birth to them. they're "frozen" in the forms of children

-the mother's hole at the front end of her body is visibly smaller. i think we'll be seeing more of her. the horse seems important to soldier, and the mother consumed it. horse rescue mission?

-BAGHEAD. WHAT IS HER DEAL? why can only prisoner see her? what is she sharing with prisoner that soldier doesn't know, and why would the knowledge "kill her"? and why does soldier "have it coming"??? my take right now is something like "soldier believed in the army's propaganda and joined the war effort. she was complicit, until the army took someone she cared about (prisoner) and her blind belief in the army led her to not intervene while her friend froze to death. now they're both in the guilt-limbo dimension of the Island" also the dlc was LONG! delicious delicious. i can't wait for the next chapters

thinking about the prisoner and the soldier as a duo...

my initial feeling was that soldier would see herself as above prisoner because of their prescribed roles, but it seems to be the opposite

we don't see them meeting or see the moment they begin working together- we jump right into the action, as they jump off a plane together. society would see their roles as naturally opposed (guards vs prisoners), but as people, they seem to trust and care for each other.

they interact a lot and they already have a lot of dialogue. we can already get a sense of their personalities, too.

soldier seems to be the more active one. she's constantly looking around and is the one to grab the weapon. she pushes through the boomer's belly with no hesitation (... how did she know to do that? did she see it before??)

prisoner, meanwhile, hangs back and observes. their weapon of choice is the camera. they stun enemies, but don't damage them. their quieter demeanour could simply be because they have low energy, though.

soldier asks about prisoner often. she worries that they'll freeze to death in their prison cell. she offers them her coat. she asks who they're talking to.

prisoner seems to treat soldier a little coldly (ha!) and brushes off her offers of help. at the same time, prisoner is holding some knowledge from soldier because "it will kill her"- prisoner is protecting soldier, too.

from her name and role, you'd expect soldier to be gruff, angry and battle-hardened, but there's almost... not quite something innocent, but something naive about her. she soothes the horse through the barbed wire fence, and her voice is almost playful at times. despite her position, she can't see how bad things really are? or maybe she's ignorant on purpose.
