trying to make my comeback here... in the thick of the PhD at the moment. in my absolute final year, writing my literature review with a looming deadline. so obviously i decide to dig out my tumblr account. struggling with focus and general aches & pains this week. miss having fun in the world.
Day 18/100: Had a really rough couple of days in my personal life + terrible terrible sleep last night. Still managed to get a bit done today even if it didn't feel like it. Started writing chapter 3 of my thesis, plan is to write it out then go back and find gaps.
Word count: 4370/10,000 (an addition of 400 ish, of useable writing from today)
Reading: The wizard of Earthsea by Ursula K Le Guin (♡)
iced matcha with cream and sugar
This week hasn't been very productive sadly. I felt quite tired and it felt like none of the stuff I studied was sticking in my brain, apart from organic chem and there's still a lot I don't understand in that subject too.
Victories
(sort of) keeping up with at least ONE subject
did some phys revision questions
finished a chemistry assignment
exercised 5/7 days
made a new friend (?)
went to the library and got more books, I'm currently reading Homecoming by Kate Morton
Defeats
feel like I understand nothing in pharm
didn't write up any phys notes which I was planning to do
didn't finish lab prep for next week...gotta do it over the weekend now
feeling kind of mentally exhausted
social anxiety got the best of me and I didn't ask a professor questions I REALLY needed to ask even though he's the friendliest person ever. It wasn't that I was anxious about asking him specifically, but the idea of going up in front of the class made me want to cry
forgot to wear my safety glasses in the lab... and we were working with carcinogens. The dumbest thing I did so far this week lol
that exact same lab did not go well for me, I was quite slow. I wanted to cry at the end
Day 12-15/100: didnt study much over the weekend due to work shifts so not much to report. Read my book. Walked my dog. Finally ((actually)) finalised my thesis chapter for review. Read some more and might revise it again lol
Word count: 3,978/10,000 (all under revision)
Reading: Say Nothing (Patrick Radden Keefe). Can't settle on a new fiction book :/ any recs?
Sphynxe by Joseph Urban (1903)
favourite place to study
"after all, how can one feel the loss of a thing whose existence one has become unconscious to?"
a wonderful collection of essential and constant truth bombs.
Day 11: really positive day. Smashed out 1000 words of the introduction chapter (!!!). Went for a walk and did some organisation of my primary sources. Took the night off & finished reading A Long Way To A Small Angry Planet
Word count: 3790 (!!!)
Currently reading: Hellebore magazine, Say Nothing (Patrick Radden Keefe)
