Please watch the video linked HERE WARNING: DISTRESSING (tldr below)
For those who don’t want to watch, which is fair, it’s basically a small piece on the food crisis in Yemen. One of the children featured in the video, a 10 year old boy named Hassan, weights only 20 pounds. The recommended weight for a boy of his age is around 60 pounds. Due to extreme malnutrition, Hassan cannot walk properly.
What’s happening in Yemen is atrocious. There is one, albeit small, way that you can help as long as you have access to the internet. Freerice is an app/website approved by the World Food Programme. For each correct question answered, Freerice donates 10 grains of rice to hungry people, including children like Hassan. There’s several categories besides vocabulary, so explore your options.
Though 10 grains of rice isn’t a lot, it can grow quickly. Freerice has helped to donate over 202 BILLION grains of rice so far, and the website is still active. Every bit helps. Plus! It keeps your score and there’s a leader board. You can join groups with your family and make a competition out of it. Who doesn’t love friendly competition for a good cause?
TLDR: People are starving, use the free app Freerice to help them without spending money
