A crucial thing about Grand Admiral Thrawn is that he IS cruel and he IS sarcastic and he WILL make it very clear when he doesn't respect you, but also sometimes he is rude without meaning to be. At many points in his books he will say something odd or commit a faux pas and the people around him will assume that he's being disrespectful/treasonous/defiant on purpose, but his friends will know that he's just autistic
