I hate the fucking discourse about who's a top or bottom man
Saying will should bottom because he's feminine is stupid
Saying Mike should bottom because he looks feminine is also stupid
Saying Will should top because of his trauma is stupid
Saying Will should bottom because he's sensitive is stupid
Saying Mike should top because of his body not being "bottom enough" (i.e lanky, small ass (all takes I've genuinely seen btw) and him being a leader so he has to take the lead in bed too is stupid
The list can honestly go on with the amount of takes I've seen on both twt and Tumblr that are quite honestly mischaracterising them and just being VERY inconsiderate to what it actually was like in the 80's in general
I think the characters would quite literally hate them too if they saw some of the excuses and discourse surrounding this, especially because some of it involves babying them (which both have proven to fucking HATE) and honestly, as much as people will never admit it, fetishise them
The discourse around it general is stupid. Let the mfs be gay, it shouldn't matter who tops or bottoms, stop being fetishy and trying to put morals behind it. if you like one character bottoming or topping, that's fine, just don't fucking threaten people and push your obsession with it on other people.
As a gay man myself, it is really quite jarring of the amount of weird, hetero normative, and "morals" people have put into this ship just to excuse what sex position they would be in. I kind of miss the byler before lawless byler became such a big thing with in its community. Byler having sex is fine, cool even because who's stopping them when they've discovered themselves in fanfiction anwyay? this "lawless" byler stuff? It's kind of hurtful to be honest, me and my boyfriend have quite literally recoiled from of the takes we've seen. Switching is actually quite normal with us queers actually if people need to know.
Also why are we calling it "lawless", such an odd word to put on a gay ship :/
Just say byler having sex and I will literally cheer and clap because that's just quite literally what it is.there is no need to be so oh but it's "LAWLESS".
Having a preference to who bottoms and tops it fine, their quite literally fictional characters so interpret what you want, but when your harassing other people over it? And then backing it up with these quite APPALING takes such as "oh just look it him he's such a bottom/top" or "oh but he's feminine and such so he has to bottom" or quite literally objectifying their bodies and the entirety of their characters just so you can feel like you have some sort of superiority in this gay ship?
It's disgusting, and I've never felt so icky about a discourse in my life. My gay ass has literally never felt so jaw dropped.
Sorry if this is a bit of an explicit take but I needed to get my anger out somewhere because from what ive seen, it's getting worse, and I quite literally can't enjoy "lawless" byler without some comment online whispering smth about "no the sex has to go this way because THATS THE WAY IT SHOULD be because I SAID IT AND THESE PEOPLE SAID it so therefore it's practically canon!"
May I remind people that also unfortunately, byler has never became explicitly canon, so there is no canon and correct opinion within "lawless byler" anyway. It should all be fun and queer appreciation, with some actual good depth and look ins to the characters,especially since it was based in such a hard time for queers, the 80's.
But no. People want to police how us gays should be.
