X-Men Unlimited (1993) #1
Thank you for your service, sir.

‘The evil we deal with, it gets inside us all’
‘But with me Logan, it stayed’
‘Fact that you hate the darkness within you so much, that’s all I need to know. You’re an X-Man Frost. You’re one of us. You want forgiveness? Start with yourself’.
A nice little short from the Manifest Destiny/San Francisco era. I think this is the scene that finally cemented Emma’s status as an X-Person, and as such probably a scene that the PTBs, the haters, and all the nasty basic nitwits would like to forget about or sweep under the rug.
Not today Satan. Not today.

Shamelessly reblogging myself again
Cyclops is one of those characters that it’s easier to like as you grow up and have more responsibility for others in your life. As a teenager, I didn’t like him, he just had a stick up his ass and was the No Fun guy. Now? He kept the X-Men together and alive through a lot of the worst shit the universe could throw at them.
Cyclops is kind of the opposite of an escapist fantasy character. He does taxes, reminds people to eat their veggies, and gets to be the one to say “no”, or “don’t break that!” to everyone else.
Or do the responsible thing and maintain human-mutant relations by conceeding to the proper authorities rather than kill a squad of assassins who just massacred his late wife’s entire family in front of their daughter’s eyes. And not show his true feelings.
Thank goodness for telepaths.
But being in charge makes you responsible. All the complaints, all the screw-ups, and all the hard decisions.
and harder decisions
I’m not saying he’s the best leader the X-Men have had, but he led them through a couple of absolutely brutal decades of hate-crimes, war, genocide, disease, and decimation, one after the other. He went against his own conscience and ideals and shredded his soul making decisions that were not morally-right but saved their lives more than once. Whether or not he did the right thing, he took on the burden of responsibiity. That’s what makes him so fascinating. I wrote this up before he came back so now I’m excited to see what he does next.

do you have comic recs for scott summers? I don't know much about the character but I want to
I have to say X-Men stories ARE Scott stories. He is a strong headliner in nearly every book, but Astonishing X-Men (2004) is a huge fan favorite. Cyclops (2011) and (2001) will endear you greatly to his character!
This is the most clear indicator of the type of guy Scott Summers is:
Cyclops is a jerk !
