Who even cares about university. Or BTBB main plot. It's TDOV! So take some lore for BTBBs canon trans kids. Some of this is a bit non-canon/"what if", like... they're not all in contact with both their parents, but suspend your disbelief. I wanted to talk a lil about their family situations...
Have to do work for my job, I guess... but I have some silly headcanons in non despair that I'd like to get posted today as well. So we'll see if I have time to finish that. I was also gonna talk about trans culture in adraverse, but it's okay. Can save that for June...
Kobashikawa
-Of the four, was second to last to start identifying as transgender
-Found out that that was a thing you could do, and things suddenly made sense.
-Realized before he started to officially work as a commercial pilot, was in very early stages of social transitioning when he had his first flight with passengers. Was SO nervous about if he passed or not, just sitting there shaking in his dress shoes.
-^Everyone was significantly more interested in "holy shit small pilot young thing. dude am i meeting a future hpa student?"
-Pretty assured of his identity, but gets debilitating bouts of dysphoria. You cannot make him doubt his identity as a man, but you can make him feel insecure about how he's seen.
-Will not leave his room if he's having one of those episodes.
-Had his mom help work out his name, chose it himself based off her suggestions/ideas. She's supportive, but it brings her new anxieties. Already, she worries if she's too protective, or doesn't do enough for him, and now he's transgender? New facet of stress...
-His dad doesn't really show it, but he's really excited about having a son to mentor. He's great with his daughters too, but Koba has always kinda been His Buddy, and there's an extra element to it now.
-Sisters are fully supportive! Both kind of... privately thought it was a phase he was going through, initially? But they've come around for sure. No grievances between them about it, I don't think he keyed into this, and like... they were just kids! I don't think they really saw him as like... old enough to be having serious introspection on his identity.
-Was on puberty blockers, has been on topical testosterone for a while as of Aug 2019. Wants to up his dosage, and his blood work has been good, so he's been considering just... doing it. He hasn't been in to see his doctor in a bit because he's been busy, so he hasn't gotten medical approval to do this.
Maki
-Of the four, was the last to start identifying as transgender
-Found out that was a thing you could do, and things slowly started to make sense.
-Didn't realize until tooo recently... was definitely a pre-teen when she started to work things out
-I hope it's obvious that she's unsure of herself. Contrast to canon Kiyoka who has some insecurities/is a bit nervous about some of her behaviors, but is ultimately very authentic; continues to talk and play with her friends. Contrast...
-Nanyways. I think her vibe is very... "I'm definitely a girl. Assuming that's something I am allowed to be? I can- transition? That's not- there's nothing I'm doing wrong with that?" like... doesn't have doubts about being a girl, but internalized transphobia + uncertainty make her think it's impossible, sometimes. If that makes sense.
-Her mom is okay with it... doesn't like the way Maki went about coming out/transitioning, though. Wishes she'd been more transparent and included them in her process more.
-Her dad... hm. I think similar to her mom, but he's more Disappointed in Kiyoka for not telling him.
-There's probably a sort of attitude from her parents of like... this is something inconsequential, so you shouldn't have hid it from us, you didn't have anything to hide. Which is dismissive of her feelings + ignores why she might have been nervous. The kind response would be open support + reassurance, and to ask or self reflect about why she didn't feel like she could tell them.
-I'm refusing to talk about Ryutaro because I know Iris tries to work out what's happening with Ryutaro sometimes, and I don't want to give them any crumbs. ...I will say, though, he's not transphobic. Ryutaro win!
-Probably came up with her name herself. I don't think she asked anyone, or took it from someone she knows.
-Not on anything. God save Maki Kiyoka. Not that you have to medically transition, but she definitely wants to.
Tomori
-Of the four, was the second to start identifying as transgender
-Fits the trope of always having a general interest in more feminine stuff, but it was attributed to just being close to her sister.
-Asked her mom if it was possible to be a girl instead of a boy, like if people could do that... Her mom went Dead Silent as she processed like ohh..... ohhhhh.... okay....!, and from then on out her family had a better understanding of what Tomori was feeling.
-Her family moved to a new town like... before her sisters last year of elementary? And used that as an opportunity for her to socially transition.
-100% secure in her identity, and generally doesn't worry about if she passes or not- largely because she's confident she does. If she didn't pass, I think she would be more concerned with it...
-Initially went by a different name other than Kizuna, was one she heard a girl in a different class use/saw on TV, and really liked. Stopped feeling like it fit her after about two years of using it, switched to Kizuna off of her mom's recommendation, when she got a new form of ID which allowed her to use a chosen name.
-Her mom is very like... firm and vehement ally. Had a good understanding of being transgender/was very accepting beforehand, but now goes out of her way to stay informed on trans issues. Loves her daughter so much.
-Her dad doesn't give a fuck. Vaguely thinks it's strange, but is like... okay as long as u know I'm not gonna pay for makeup or some girly shit... he doesn't do this for her mom or sister either, like this isn't targeted at Zuna because she's trans, he's just Like That.
-Her sisters just chilling. Though, she's a bit more attuned to trans people, and goes out of her way to protect trans kids because of Kizuna. Loving Kizuna comes naturally, and comes with the consequence of being more of a protector.
-Was briefly on puberty blockers, but worked better financially for her to switch to estrogen (due to insurance approval reasons).
-Took pills for a bit, but has been on patches for awhile now- of the kids on HRT, she's the one who's been with her method for the longest.
-Of the four, was the first to start identifying as transgender
-Got enrolled in a gymnastics class as a kid, and when they were told to split into boys and girls, he got upset when he was told to be with the girls. Had to be picked up early from lesson because he wouldn't calm down.
-So like... started socially transitioning really young. Only one without clear, explicit memories of a pre-transition time.
-Also 100% secure in his identity. Generally isn't nervous about passing- only fails to pass when he doesn't bind, and even then, he only fails to pass sometimes. But he is a bit insecure about his voice sounding feminine, because he has a degree of vocal fry.
-Does not have biological parents he was born because a bit of sea foam really wanted to chew on sand and so it formed a human body just to have a mouth to put sand in, and now that sand eating sea foam is known as Tsurugi.
-...If he hypothetically had human parents, though ;
-His dad figured he just didn't understand gender because Tsurugi was so young when he started identifying as male. Still kind of expecting Tsurugi to "change his mind/lose this conviction". Doesn't really care, he just doesn't think Tsurugi's right.
-His mom, on the other hand, fucks with this heavy/is fully supportive.
-Kouhei + Kouhei's family also really accepting... Good support network, Tsurugi!
-Didn't take puberty blockers, has been on intravenous testosterone for a few years as of Aug 2019.
-Got stabbed in the lower abdomen, had to have an ovary removed, was young enough that there was fear his remaining ovary wouldn't produce a healthy level of estrogen. Used this as a stepping stone to go "...Can I start testosterone then?"
