"I'm fine, I just-. . . fumbled so badly just now its embarrassing. . ."

*They give a thumbs up but do not move from their curled up position, clearly wishing to be buried in a hole from embarrassment as they mumble to themself.*

"So much for smooth talking Zorro, you epic failure." *A nearby Ignihyde student sighs at his vice housewarden out of second hand embarrassment*

Ash tilts their head. Fumbled? What was there to fumble?….. they weren’t something to fumble, much less even chase after.

Ash gently puts a hand on his head and rubs it gently.

Oh wow, your hair is pretty soft. Thats nice. Besides, why would a failure have good hair and a pretty face?

*Zorro looks up at Ash, bewildered before making an incoherent sound as their face turns bright red. Zorro was not used to be complimented let alone by someone so pretty. Zorro hide their face behind their hands, seemingly very giddy at the compliment but not knowing how to respond to it properly.*

Ash just smiles and sits down next to them. They grab hold of one of Zorro’s hands and hold it.

You okay? The fall didn’t hurt did it?

"Y yeah. . . I'm good. . . just uhhh. . . Not hurt, im not hurt physically at least"

*Zorro stuttered out, normally they hated people touching them but right now they didn't mind so much. Ash didn't set of their icks, so they really had no idea what to do or what they were doing. Their mouth was just talking before their mind could catch up fully.* "I- uhhh- Do you want to go to the cat café at town?!"

*Zorro asked, clearing panicking by how their voice cracked and went up an octave at the ending of their sentence. Zorro internally cringed at the voice crack and started praying to whatever deity would listen to their fumbling atheist ass that they didn't fuck this up to badly.*

Ash blinks for a second, their mind processing it for a minute.

A cat cafe? I’ve never been to one. Sure, I’d like to go with you. Sounds nice.

A small blush on their cheeks came as they realized they were getting asked on a date, maybe, and holding hands with said person. Well, they did flirt at the beginning. Or did they? Maybe it was just a compliment! Yeah, probably just a compliment.

*Zorro nodded but was internally panicking. They had not thought this far ahead. They had NEVER taken someone on a date, let alone to a cat café! Why did they say cat café?! Like yes they knew one, it was their favorite spot ever but like they just could not stop fumbling now could they?!*

"So uhh, when are free??? The café I want to take you to is in a kinda niche part of town so it takes a bit to get there from NRC. But it's worth it I promise! We can get a coffee or something before we go hang out with all the cute kitties, and since its a small place without many people there at one time, we get unlimited time to pet the kitties!"

*Zorro was blabbing again, they either froze up or started blabbing when they got anxious or panicked. They were so glad they didn't freeze up but blabbing was nearly as bad. They didn't want to come off as weird. . . yet-*

Ash huffed a small laugh and looked at Zorro.

That sounds perfect, why are you asking me though? I’m sure there’s prettier people… or better people to hang out with rather than me-

"Your. . . Your asking me why?"

*Why? WHY?! THEY WERE BEING ASKED WHY?! Zorro stared at Ash looking mildly offended on their behalf for saying/thinking such a thing. Mouth agape and brows furrowed impossibly close, like they had just heard the stupidest thing in their life*

"Because your pretty, and cool, and kind, and the kitchen staff tell me you bake and baking is so cool, and your just cool, shit I said that already, and I'm just a loser who just keep rambling- I'll shut up now. . ."

Ash lost half of what Zorro said after they said it. The only thing that caught their attention was that apparently they were talked about. A wall flower was just a wall flower. Pretty to look at, and easily replaced.

Oh, really? I didn’t know that. It’s kinda cute.

*'Cute?' Zorro couldn't tell if they were calling them cute because they thought their rambling was cute or because they gossiped with the kitchen staff- They would not tell Ash they gossiped with the kitchen staffs, half of Ignihyde already thought they were losing their shit at this point.*

"So- so when are you free to go to the cafe? I'm free whenever, you can just come to Ignihyde dorm and ask for me"

I’m free right now, if you don’t mind… I mean, it’s not like I’m even busy most days.

Ash gently trailed their hand across Zorro’s arm. It was more out of unconscious habit than anything.

*Zorro froze, face turning an even brighter red than before if that was even humanly possible. They knew better than to try and say anything, they'd just make incoherent sounds again and that might up the chances of them fumbling again, so they just nodded in agreement and pulled their phone out to pull of the cafe location.* "It's- ummm, It's this one-"

*Zorro stumbled over their words as they showed the phone to Ash. they had they had searched up the cafe location to show Ash, so they could look at the menu to make sure they could eat or drink something they liked at least.*

Ash looked at Zorro’s phone before moving right up next to them.

Can I see?

They wanted a closer look, even though they already had glasses, habit was hard to break. Plus, maybe there were a few picture to scroll through. Oh, and kitties!!! Kitties, oh the kitties. Every cat was a kitty to them.

*Zorro tensed slightly up before relaxing again, having been caught off guard than they start pointing at each cat picture and explaining little things about the cats they were familiar with.*

"This tabby here is Bandit, she only likes head scratches and will simply sit next to you. Than this one is Inku, this little kitty like scratches and hanging out with you but will totally smack you if they feel like it. Than this is Plushie, they love treats and playing."

*Zorro chattered on about the kitties as the two sat next to each other.*

Ash listened to everything Zorro said as they chatted, and once Zorro was done, they hummed and picked at their hang nails.

Sounds nice, I’d like to go. You seem to know a lot about the cats. Do you go there often?

Ash was settled right against Zorro, not minding the lack of space between them really.

"Oh Yeah! I got there every weekend, it my favorite off campus spot to go to. Gets me out of the dorm and away from vice housewarden duties."

*Zorro chuckled, a soft, barely there sound as they smiled. They had brighten up so much, seemingly less awkward and anxious getting to talk about the cats and the café. Zorro notices Ash picking at their nails and subconsciously takes one of their hands in their own to stop them as they keep chattering about the café and the cats, and the menu you guess*

"They have really good coffee at this café, if you ask their make it with milk instead of water, and the croissants are in house made and their SOOO buttery and delicious. Oh my sevens' you'll love them, I promise!"

Ash blushes slightly, nobody has ever well. Noticed the picking before. If they did, they mostly moved on and just let it happen. Plus, Zorro was rambling and now holding their hand and they were close together, honestly it was adorable.

I like croissants, and coffee. Seems like a great place to go to. I see why you like it. You’re a vice housewarden?

*Zorro said, finally introducing themself. They had totally forgotten to do so and it made them blush more from embarrassment on forgetting again. They really needed to get into the habit of introducing themself without having the other party introduce themself first. It was a bad habit at this point, and now Zorro was wonderinghw many people they had managed to talk to who didn't know who they were because of it. Zorro's thumb started rubbing small subconscious circles on the back of Ash's hand. A fidget they got when they felt embarrassed. They used their other hand, with their phone because their an idiot who forgot they were holding it, to rub the back of their neck before realizing they were still holding their phone and putting it in their lap before repeating the action without the phone this time.*

Ash simply lays their body against Zorro’s side like a weighted blanket. It was a way they were trying to calm Zorro’s nerves. And maybe get a few “cute points” with them. Ash didn’t want a bad first impression.

They knew better than to try and say anything, they'd just make incoherent sounds again and that might up the chances of them fumbling again, so they just nodded in agreement and pulled their phone out to pull of the cafe location.* "It's- ummm, It's this one-"

Ash was deep asleep. The mages were mainly confused. How could a magicless person make blot. Why was the blot accumulating in their lungs.

A few theories popped up. One mainly about the entire way magic worked. Sure Magic didn’t exist in Ash, but it existed around Ash. Their environment, everything in it, was magical. Thus, their emotions must’ve been so powerful, and an abundance of magic around them, the blot had something to hold onto and take. However, their body wasn’t built for blot, and had nowhere to go. So, it created the physical form.

Now, just simply in critical condition, they were going to get a diet that consisted mostly of food in nonmagical nature. It seemed as long as their emotions ran high enough, and they kept consuming magical things, this would happen again.

It would be a while until Ash woke up again, and the monitoring was intense. They had blot mainly in their lungs, and it was enough that if Paiges had been just a bit slower. Ash wouldn’t have made it.

They looked calm almost. More peaceful. Even with worse eye bags, even if their frame was thinner, even if they looked paler.
