"Both were designed by poet and historian Richard von Kralik, who used them as a visual teaser for his 1907 treatise Die Gralssage (The Legend of the Grail). The plate shows the history of the Holy Grail: as a gem in Lucifer’s crown, as a gift from the Magi at Jesus’ birth, as a chalice at the Last Supper and at the Crucifixion and finally its transportation to Britain by Joseph of Arimathia. The cup depicts King Titurel, who, in possession of this relic, summoned the Knights of the Grail as we know them from the medieval legends of Arthur."
