Now originally these are the actual stills from the animation, some of the detail and color got lost with the effect, but I liked the look
, Got a huge inspo boost from @eqqtt drawing of Bilbo 🥺🥺😭😭😫😫 based on their post check it out out >>> https://www.tumblr.com/eqqtt/812650495246286848/i-saw-some-illustrations-from-the-childrens-book/replies/819732921475891200
I saw some illustrations from the children’s book Vos en Haas that really inspired me.
My idea was that after Bilbo steps in front of Azog to protect Thorin and Thorin hugs him (that scene was so sweet) they come down from the Carrock. Before reaching Beorn’s house, they take a short rest, and there Bilbo, a bit disoriented and tired, starts imagining himself protecting Thorin.
Why did I choose Smaug? In the Vos en Haas illustration, a fox defends a little rabbit from a dragon, and that reminded me a lot of Bagginshield, with Thorin actually being the “damsel in distress” XD.
Why use the designs from the 1977 The Hobbit? Honestly, I just find the characters really funny-looking. I just watched the movies recently and really liked them.
The one with Ori and Bilbo is also inspired by the children’s book. And while drawing them, I saw a video of squirrels storing acorns in their owners’ clothes. I’m sure Ori wouldn’t mind being a food stash for Bilbo especially his scarf.
Its lovely- I got inspired the moment I saw this
