Adelaine’s POV
Friday’s practice rolled around quickly. I loitered around the paddocks, listening to Jack ramble on about his date night. After last night, my mind felt useless. George and I had laid on the hotel bed, trying different things off of the room service menu while watching a couple of movies on my laptop. We talked about a lot of different things before George had headed back to his room. Alex and Lando had both tried to call him but he never picked up once.
“You’re just as much my friend as both Alex and Lando are.” Is all he kept repeating.
Ah, Lando. I’d spent the night trying to get as much information from George as I could. After George had left, I made a note of all the things he mentioned so I could fill Jack in.
- Sarah is just his McLaren Media Manager, not his girlfriend.
- Lando’s upset I didnt tell him I loved him back
- I’m blocked so he can move on
- Lando’s talking to someone new.
The last one stung a little and I was never meant to know. It had slipped out when a message from the group chat had popped up. Inevitably, I was at fault. I should have told him how I felt when I had the chance.
“Adelaine!” Jack shouted, snapping me from my thoughts.
“Mhm?”
“Alex needs you.” I looked around to see I was no longer alone with Jack. Jack headed back towards the Renault paddock, leaving me with Alex.
“What were you thinking?” He huffed under his breath. I shot him a confused look, furrowed eyebrows as I reprocessed everything I’d done that day.
“What?”
“Having George in your hotel room last night? Lando found out this morning and is beyond mad. He won't talk to George and now I have both of them arguing through me.” He paced up and down, pulling at his hair.
“First of all, Lando has me blocked on everything. He wants nothing to do with ME. He shouldn't care for what I do. Secondly, George turned up to my door uninvited and said he wanted to hang. He’s my friend so I said yes.” I crossed my arms against my chest. Before Alex had a chance to speak, the sound of someone calling my name stopped him.
“ADELAINE.” My manager called from across the paddock. I watched as she jogged over, placing a hand on Alex’s arm.
“What is it Molly?”
“Seb can't make it for the day.” She heaved, trying to catch her breath.
“What do you mean Seb can't make it?”
“She means you need to race, Addy.” Alex’s face lit up. Molly pointed towards him, nodding her head.
“We need you to get ready for Free Practise now.”
“But, I’m not ready. I didnt thin- I thought-”
“Addy you need to go, stop overthinking it.”
“Good Luck Adelaine. You’re going to smash it.” Alex smiled.
“Thank You.” and with that, I was on my feet and running towards the Ferrari paddock.

Adelaine’s POV
When I woke the next morning, the memories of the night before flooded my mind. A small smile crept on my face as I rolled over but that soon dropped when I realised I was alone. No note. No text. Nothing. I pulled myself up and headed into the main area to find Jack laid on the sofa.
“You alright Ad?” He called, turning to look at me.
“Yeah, yeah I’m fine. Just tired.” Jack turned back around as I headed back into my room. I pulled up our messages, sending him a couple of iMessages before ringing Alex.
“Hey, whats up?” His voice was chipper, laughter bouncing around him.
“What are you doing?” I hummed as he continued to laugh at something.
“Oh, I’m just hanging with George and Lando. Why? Did you need me?”
“It doesn't matter.” I quickly hung up the phone, checking my messages to see nothing. The messages hadn't even sent. Frustrated, I went to message him on instagram. His profile loaded up blank, not a single post.
Lando Norris had blocked me.
--
I’d received a lot of positivity by moving into Ferrari and every Grand Prix, I was easily recognised. It felt good. We were heading out to Shanghai this week and I was excited. We had been warned that Seb was coming later but would be here for practise on Friday.
I still hadn't heard from Lando and wasn't sure why. Jack told me to not worry about it and that he was just trying to deal with something but that wasn't settling with me. To be brutally honest, it was rough.
“We’re going on a run.” Jack’s voice shouted from the bathroom of my hotel room.
“I’m staying here.”
“No, you’re not.” Jack lifted a pair of gym clothes from my bag and threw them at me, disbelief filling his face when I didnt flinch.
“I’ll be back in five minutes.”
He wasn't wrong. Jack was dressed and ready for me within that five minutes and although the last thing I wanted to do was run, I still got ready to go.
“You need a clear mind ahead of this weekend. You’ve been doing incredibly well in all of your races, I know, but you’re not the same driver I know. I can tell somethings off, every one can, and the last thing we need is an incident.” Jack spoke, running along beside me. He was right which was the worst part of all.
“I know, it’s been tough. I spent this whole year on a journey to understand and take control of my emotions for it all to be ripped at the last moment. I didnt work on myself hard enough before I tried to move forward.”
“Addy, this isn't your fault. You were good, so good. I’d never seen you better. I don't know whats going on in Lando’s head but I wish I did to help you out.”
“Thank you, Jack. I needed this.”
“Don't forget, it takes time. Sometimes you will feel like everything is back to normal but something will come around and the wound will reopen you just can't give up. Take each day to mend.” Jack smiled. From behind, I heard the sound of bikes approaching before a long wolf whistle.
“Hey gorgeous, nice ass.” The voice called. I turned on my heals, eyes locking with none other than George Russell.
“I’m telling Alex.” I huffed, turning to run to catch up with Jack. George slowed down his bike so he was going at a similar pace, a large smile on his face.
“You know I’m just messing with you... unless?” He smiled. The sound of another bike could be heard approaching.
“Back of my baby sister.” Alex shouted, pulling up to the other side of Jack.
“We’re trying to run, you do realise?” I huffed, trying to pick up my pace.
“Fine. Race you.” And with that, the two cycled off into the distance.
“They love you really.”
“I know.”
----
The run had helped but now I was left alone in the comfort of my hotel room. I knew a bunch of the f1 boys had gone out and Jack had taken his girlfriend out so I’d been left completely alone. I remained in the silence of my room, listening to the random bouts of laughter that passed the door every so often. A light knock came from the hallway, catching me off guard. I took to my feet, peaking through the peep hole to see George.
“What are you doing here?” I mumbled as I pulled the door open to let him in.
“Jack’s out with his girlfriend so I knew you’d be alone. You wouldn't dare message Alex while away on a race weekend because you know he’d be with Lando and you’re doing everything you can to avoid him. And you’d be right, they are together and they invited me to join them but I called it off to come make sure you were okay. I didnt know if you wanted to get some food?” George mumbled, eyes watching his nails as he picked at the skin around them.
“Room service?”
“Sounds perfect.”

Lando’s POV
“Happy Birthday to you.” Everyone sang. My eyes flittered down to the cake beneath me before blowing out the candles. I turned to my side to Sarah. A large smile spread across her face. I pulled her into a hug, thanking her for the cake. We’d only known each other for a few weeks but she’d become such an important part of my life. She was there to take care of my career for the next season with McLaren so she got to see me at every stage of my life. I held her face briefly, thanking her for everything before hugging her once more. Out of the corner of my eye, I saw Adelaine move through the crowd.
“I need to go do something.”
“Lando, please be careful.”
“I will.” I turned and left, heading in the direction of Adelaine. I stopped quickly, noticing she was with Alex.
“I’m going home.” I heard her shout above the music. Alex looked a taken back before his eyes flickered in my direction. His head shook a sharp no, meaning for me not to approach. I saw his mouth move but no words came out. George came from behind, speaking as well. I watched as Adelaine moved, moving her hands around as she explained.
“Adelaine.” Alex shouted over the music as she took George’s hand and disappeared into the crowd. I walked towards Alex, his eyes locked on the pair.
“What was that about?” I mumbled, keeping my eyes on Alex.
“You’ve spent so long ignoring her because of this Ferrari deal which I should add, means nothing to any potential between the two of you, that she now thinks Sarah and yourself are a thing. The thing is, she won't listen to me and apart from Carlos, I’m the only one that knows about Sarah. So she’d over there right now, dancing with George with a ideality in her mind that you’re hooking up with someone else.” Alex’s eyes never left the pair. Without saying a word, I turned on my heals and headed towards the bar.
“Lando.” Max called out.
“Fewtrell.” I nodded. I took my drink and turned to look at him. He started to speak, my mind else where as my eyes scanned across the room to see George and Adelaine. Their bodies were close, dancing slowly as the music played around them. Her eyes fluttered open, looking up and locking eyes with mine. We held contact for a moment before she turned to look back at George. Their faces were close, almost too close for comfort. Before I knew it, I was on my feet and making my way towards them. My plan was soon foiled when I saw George hold out his hand and escort her out of the building. My heart fell, looking around the room for some sort of help. I gripped Alex and Max’s wrists before pulling them into a separate room away from the noise.
“What is it Lando?” Alex sighed taking a seat. I took a long swig of drink, looking around the room.
“What am I meant to do?” I shouted, falling to the ground.
“You need to elaborate a little.” Max muttered. I pushed my face into my hands, growing further frustrated.
“The girl I’m practically in love with was grinding on my best friend at my own birthday party and theres nothing I can do about it because all I’ve done is ignore her for weeks.” As the last few words fell from my mouth, the door behind me cracked open. George’s face came into view, scared of what he’d walked into. Without another thought, I was on my feet and storming in his direction.
“Woah, woah, Lando.” Alex jumped from his chair, grabbing my shoulder. My arm was raised and ready to swing.
“George hasn't done anything wrong.” Max called out. I dropped my arm, stepping back into the room and letting George walk in. The room fell silent for a bit before Alex spoke up.
“So, you’re in love with my sister?”
“Oh God, Lando, you know I would never if I knew.” George panicked, looking frantically around.
“Look, I know that George.” I gave him a small smile.
“What are you going to do about it?”
“What do you mean what am I going to do?’
“Well you need to tell her.”
“Tell Adelaine you love her.”
“Now.”
And with that, I was on my feet and running to Adelaine’s house.
---
My eyes flickered open to unfamiliarities. Once I was focused on my surroundings, I realised I was in Adelaine’s bed. Oh no. Without another thought, I was on my feet and out of the door. What happened?
The memories of the night flooded back, the realisation that I’d told Adelaine I loved her and she couldn't say it back. I dialled Alex’s phone, begging for him to pick up. After 5 minutes, I was back at our flat.
“Where were you dude?” George shouted, coming into the living room.
“Ad’s.”
“Oh, so it went well?” He spoke, taking a seat beside Alex.
“Not really. I said I loved her and she didnt say it back. I think that sums up how the rest of this is going to go.” I shrugged, letting out a deep sigh and sinking into the sofa.
“Ah dude.”
“After all of these years, I think its time to give up on this stupid crush.”

Adelaine’s POV
"Happy Birthday to you, Happy Birthday to you, Happy Birthday dear Lando, Happy Birthday to you.” We all sang out loud, watching as he beamed down at the cake in front of him. It had been a couple of weeks since the showing and I hadn't spoken to Lando since. Alex had told me it was compulsory for Jack and I to attend the party as we’d been invited. The last thing I needed was more speculation within the fandom. It was reasonably calm at the moment.
Lando blew out his candles before bundling the girl to his left in a hug. The sweet moment felt tinged by the aching pain it caused in my heart. He held her neck lightly, smile beaming before pulling her into a hug once again. I shouldn't feel this way. I removed Lando from my life, he shouldn't have to wait around for me to come back. The more I watched, the harder it became. Next thing I knew, my legs were moving quickly and my eyes were set on one person.
“I’m going home.” I blurted out. Alex’s body jolted back as he looked at me, forehead wrinkled as he tried to evaluate the situation.
“Why are you going home, Adelaine?” As he said the words, George joined his side.
“The parties only just started Addy. At least lets have one dance first.” George sighed.
“Why did neither of you tell me about Lando and whoever that is?” I motioned behind my shoulder.
“Adelaine.” “No Alex. I’m going to have one dance with George and then I’m going home.”
“Please listen to me, I can explain.” His voice drowned out as I pulled George to where everyone else was dancing. The music faded into another, Blue Lights by Jorja playing through, George and I’s eyes lighting up when we heard the words. A deep smile set in to my face as I took his hands. My body moved against his, face close as my hands reached to rest against his neck while his travelled to my hips. Our eyes stayed locked on one another, the alcohol coursing through my body. We pulled apart briefly, his hands taking mine as he spun me around and pulled my back into his body. Our arms remained crossed against me as he held me close. He pulled his face down to my ear, whispering against the music.
“Look to your left.” I opened my eyes, looking across to see Lando sat by the bar. Max was talking to him but he wasn't listening. His eyes stayed on us, never breaking contact. I turned back into George, placing my hands on his chest as held my hips.
“I don't understand him George.”
“I wish I could give you anything but I know nothing. Nothing about how he feels about you, about the other girl, nothing. He’s stayed pretty private about everything.” He shrugged, placing a small kiss on my head.
“It can only get better, Addy.”
My head tilted up to look up at him, watching his eyes as they searched my face.
“Can you take me home?”
“Anything for you.”
--
It was nice to be back in the comfort of my bed, body wrapped in my pyjamas while the tv rolled a sappy love story that I could cry to. My quiet night was soon ruined by the loud banging at the door. It was 2am; who could it be?
I shuffled towards the door, peaking through the eye hole to see Lando with his back pressed against the wall. I pulled the door opening, kneeling down to his height.
“Norris. You need to be quiet. Jack is sleeping.” My voice was hushed as I tried to get him to look at me. Once our eyes met, he let out a loud and uncontrollable laugh. I placed my hands under his arms and dragged him through the apartment and to my room.
“Lando. Lando. Can you please listen to me? What are you doing here?” He stunk of alcohol so no doubt had been drinking at the party all evening.
“See, I moved into F1 to give us a chance so that we could fall in love and live happily and we’d be so lost in each other that when we would end up racing against each other, it wouldn't be a problem. But now you're at Ferrari and you’re in a better car and you’re going to beat me every race and the possibilities of us falling in love are gone for.” He started to sob, rolling himself into a ball.
“Honey, please. If you and I are meant to be then we will be no matter. Why you’ve gotten yourself so worked up about this now is beyond me,” I rested my hand on his head, brushing circles into his hair, “I’m also only a reserve driver so Seb or Charles would have to pull out for me to even be able to race.”
“But Addy. I’ve been talking to the boys. They said I should come here and that I shouldn't give up on what I want and I want you. I love you, Adelaine. I wish you could see that.” His eyes looked up at me and it felt like that night all over again yet this time, my heart yearned for him more. The deep sensation of desire pulled at me more and more until I couldn't avoid the way I was feeling. I leant down quickly, connecting our lips. This time, it was softer and more relaxed. I melted into the kiss further, my hands fumbling to find his face. Lando shifted against the bed, pulling himself up to cup my cheeks. I was the one to pull away first. Our foreheads rested against one another as our eyes stayed closed. We didnt say anything, only staying how we were until the slight sound of muffled snores fell from Lando.
“Good night, Birthday Boy.” I hummed, pulling back the duvet and leaving him to rest. I stepped from the bed before a small hand snaked around my wrist.
“Don't go, please.” He begged. I nodded, getting beneath the covers and wiggling myself beside him. His arm wrapped around my waist, pulling my body into his before placing a kiss on the back of my head.
“I’m so lucky to have you.”

Adelaine’s POV
I fluffed up my hair for one last time before stepping out into the living room. Waiting for me was Jack.
“You look, incredible.” He gushed, holding out his hand for me to take.
“You also look rather incredible yourself, Mr Aitken.” He led me out of the apartment and down to the taxi that awaited outside.
Tonight was the night of the premier of Drive to Survive. Everyone involved within was invited to the viewing. I’d chosen to take Jack as my plus one. The last of the F1 driver announcements and confirmations were being released today and it was an exciting moment for everyone. After today, the new season line up was being confirmed.
I had decided to re-sign for another year. I wasn't 100% ready to move on up to F1 and I definitely wasn't prepared to move to a team I wasn't familiar with. I was enjoying F2 with Jack, Callum and Nyck and I feel like I’ve been in such a hurry to move on that I haven't given myself the time to appreciate and enjoy the sport I’m in.
The building came into sight, a long red carpet waiting. All of the sponsors were printed on to the boards behind it. A couple of drivers were waiting for photos while some more were being photographed. Of to the side were my mother, father and Alex. I headed over to the join them, gripping on to Jack’s hand to avoid getting lost in the jumble of people.
The past few months had been strange. Somebody in the paddock in Brazil had snapped a few photos, one of them being Lando and I. We hadn't spoken since but the fans had gone insane. It was a strange feeling and I wasn't too sure how I felt.
“Addy! Are you ready?” Alex smiled. I nodded quickly, joining the line with the others. We watched as drivers went by, having their photos taken before leaving the carpet. A lady waited by the side, taking names and giving directions.
“First of all, we need just Alex to go out by himself as he is the F1 driver.” She ushered him out as he made his way to stand in the centre. He turned to face different cameras, the same cheesy grin planted on his face.
“Ok, Adelaine. You’re to head out next. You are to remain out there after photos with Alex. You will then have photos as a family and then you will step to the side to have photos with Jack. Once Alex and your parents have left the carpet, Jack is to remain and have photos while you head to the centre for your own photos. Understood?” Before I could utter a word, I was hurried on to the carpet.
Thankfully, the photos didnt take long and as I made my way off of the carpet, I noticed George and Lando having their photos. I waited patiently for them both.
“Addy!” Lando smiled, wrapping me into a hug.
“You look very smart. You sure scrub up well.”
“As do you.” He pulled away, giving me a small smile before placing a hand on my lower back and ushering me into the screening room.
The producers and directors made their speeches and the episodes began to play. I sat between Jack and Lando with George one side of Jack and Alex the other side of Lando. The title of each episode appeared on screen as it transitioned between one another. As soon as Episode Ten, the final episode, came up; everybody straightened up.
Drive to Survive was good but I grew impatient. I was fully aware that my main interview was in this episode. “The season has had it’s highs and low, especially for one driver more than others. Sebastian Vettel has dealt with a lot this season.” The screen paned to Seb, twitching in his seat.
“I love Formula One, I do. I wouldn't have spent years doing it if I didnt. But most of all, I love my family. I’m missing out on so many things happening because I’m training or racing. Hanna and I have a lot planned for the next year and I don't know if my heart can 100% be in it.” Seb’s voice trailed off to show more clips of him racing. Gasps filled the room as people looked around.
“I will be driving next year but my priority’s my family. This might be the last time you see me racing for a while.”
Alex, George and Lando’s interviews rolled through as they looked back on their first year in Formula One.
“Although these three drivers managed to bag a spot in this seasons Formula One, one special driver missed out on a space. Adelaine Albon, sister of Toro Rosso’s Alexander Albon, has had a lot to think about this season.” A few moments of Alex and I grid side flashed through the screen, my first hug after forgiving Lando played along with some more memories including the last race.
The blue screen appeared, my body sat before it. The red jacket draped my body. A small smile cracked up on my face as I burst out giggling.
“Red looks good on you.” The interviewer spoke.
“Why thank you.”
“Is this Ferrari jacket, are you hinting at something?” As the words filled the speakers, I felt Lando tense up beside me.
I watched as I pulled my tongue between my teeth before bursting out laughing once more.
“It might be.” I straightened out my face before falling into a laugh once more. A couple of videos rolled through of my FIA F2 season and a few memories with the boys that weren't at a race track.
“Hi, my name’s Adelaine Albon and I’m an F2 driver for Campos Racing and I’m also the official reserve driver for Scuderia Ferrari.” A smile spread across my face as the team behind the cameras all cheered, Seb and Charles running into the frame to wrap their arms around me as they began to sing. The footage panned out to the credits and the room fell dark.
It was official.
I was the new reserve driver for Ferrari.

Lando’s POV
New races always came as a worry for me. A lot of the time, I’d raced a track before so I was aware of any nooks you picked up by completing the circuit most of the time however, a new track meant being that one step behind. Brazil was a new one for myself and the nerves were most definitely settling in. I took to the track walk to scope it out, listening to my manager talk about the different corners.
Since Jack’s instagram story, the fans blew up. The video was on every fan page, people speculating on what was happening between us. A lot of people were just genuinely happy that Adelaine was supporting me and when they found out I was no longer blocked, they grew happier. Everyone had made speculations about why we were no longer friends and most were right. It had been out to the world that Adelaine’s dream was always McLaren so it hadn't bee hard to put two and two together. Most fans were now just waiting for a reunion photo. It wasnt happening, not anytime soon at least. This was the first step in the right direction and I wasn't going to ruin that.
“Can I do a lap? On my own?” I asked, eyes wandering up and down the track.
“Sure. But please be back in the paddocks within the next thirty minutes.” And with that, he turned on his feet and left.
The season was coming to an end, the majority of people’s place had been announced. A few spaces remained at risk but it was nothing for myself to worry about. I’d extended my contract with McLaren for a further four years after a good season. I hadn't spoken to Addy at all, only seeing her once at Sochi. As usual when I saw her, I smiled and for once, she smiled back. I had been dying to talk to her but I listened to Alex- wait for the right moment.
I made it back to the paddocks, a few reporters running around. It was never too busy on a Friday which was great; it gave me time to relax.
Sunday soon came around. Saturday’s placing had gone well for me. I managed to place ninth which felt good for a new track. I was excited for the day a head.
“Oh my God.” I heard Alex shout from outside followed by a bundle of screams. I turned to George, following him outside to find out the problem. Wrapped in his arms was Addy. I followed George over, watching as he too wrapped his arms around the pair. Adelaine’s head wiggled free, looking over to where I was standing before becoming me into the hug.
“The four musketeers.” She sang, wiggling back and forth between us all.
“This feels, right.” I smiled, squeezing her arm.
-
“You said you couldn't make it!” Alex smiled, looking at Addy.
“I may have fibbed a little.” She shrugged before pulling him back into a hug. Once they pulled apart, she turned to look at me again.
“Can you give us a moment?” Adelaine smiled, ushering for George and Alex to disband. Once we were alone, the tension grew awkward. I had waited for this day for months and I didnt know how to deal with it.
“Nice jacket.” I cracked up, trying to break the ice.
“Thanks. It was my dads. He collected it when he was in his youth.” She pulled at the red jacket.
“You look good in red.” I chuckled, brushing my hand against the back of my neck. She looked me up and down before bundling forward into my body. Her arms snaked around my back, pulling her body closer to mine.
“I’ve missed you. I’m so sorry.”

Lando’s POV
“The rookies take Singapore!” I called as I lugged the suitcase to the front doors.
“Someone is excited.” George chuckled, following closely behind. Alex didnt appear. All three of our managers were downstairs, waiting patiently and Alex was no where to be seen. Since his meeting with Adelaine, he’d been distant. They met a few nights a week and facetime’d a couple of days and it was nice to see them getting on so well once again. I knew something must have discussed as her name wasn't to be mentioned. Either that, or she just had no plans of ever clearing the air with me.
“I’m here, I’m here. Sorry. I couldn't find my passport” Alex let out a deep breath, fumbling with his suitcase as he left his room. We made our way downstairs to find our taxis and headed to the airport. We were heading out early to adapt our bodies to the heat so we wouldn't pass out in the cars. It was completely understandable but none of us were ready. The race was still a week away so we planned to make the most of the upcoming time. It would be nice to actually enjoy a city for once.
The flight passed by quite quickly and before we knew it, we were landing in Singapore. We were each staying in a small villa that lined up beside each other. In each villa with us were our personal trainers and our manager. It was pretty late when we pulled up so we made our way to bed.
After a couple of hours of trying to fall asleep, I gave up and headed out on to the little patio that was attached to my room. The air was warm, something I wasn't used to. Tomorrow we started training and I was reasonably excited. Racing kept my mind in one place and when I wasn't racing, I felt lost.
I curled my legs into my chest as I rested my back on the wall and watched the moon. The sound of voices came from the neighbouring villa and were easily distinguishable as Alex and Addy.
“Jack! Stop it!” I heard Addy scream before Alex burst out laughing.
“Get her Jack.” More laughter soon followed before it fell quiet again.
“I hope you’re taking care of my baby sister.”
“Of course, Mr Albon. I wouldn't dare let a soul leave her sad.” Jack’s voice called through the phone.
“You already have, mate. Me.” I muttered to myself, closing my eyes and heading back to the bed. I flickered onto instagram, noticing Jack had posted on his story. With a deep sigh, I opened it knowing all I was doing was destroying myself. On the screen was Addy, helmet on as she ran around a racetrack with Matty from WTF1. The two were giggling before it flickered to the next snap. This time, Jack had Addy over his shoulder while Matty spoke in the background.
“And Jack Aitken wipes out the competition, quite literally.”
The final snap appeared on the screen, Addy sat cross legged on the bed as she watched the tv. On screen was the F1 race from the past weekend. I replayed it a couple of times, watching over and over to make sure I was hearing and seeing everything right. Jack was sat on a chair in the corner of the room, out of Addy’s sight.
“Lando Norris is climbing the grid, moving into P11 when five laps ago he was starting at the end of the grid.” as the tv presenter shouted the words, Addy’s fist raised to the air as she danced to herself. Jack let out a light laugh, causing her head to whip round.
“Jack!” She launched towards the phone, the video stopping. After the fifth time watching, I finally pressed her name. Her account loaded, a small leap of happiness in my heart. There were her posts, her stories, her profile. I was unblocked. Addy was happy for my success. Maybe, just maybe, things were looking up.

Lando’s POV
Sixth Months Later
“It’s been a year.” I muttered, falling down on to the sofa beside Alex. His eyes were fixated on the screen, fiddling with the band that wrapped and his pinky finger. Adelaine had given it to him when they parted ways and he cherished it as if it was all he had left of her. It practically was.
The day she left, Alex held her and told her how sorry he had been and they’d barely seen each other since. It was strange and saddening. I had ruined something so special. Alex said it wasn't my fault. He said he should have told her, he should have let her know. He saw her at races but they never spoke often. They’d nod at each other from across the grid and he always cheered her on. They spoke properly at Christmas before season started but Alex always said he never wanted to talk about it so I never pushed it further.
“I know. It still hurts as much as the day it happened. I’m just waiting for the day everything alines once more.” His eyes remained on the tv. The last race was playing, the F2 race playing.
“And thats Adelaine Albon pushing into first place and overtaking team mate Jack Aitken.” The voice blared through the tv. Between them, Alex’s phone lit up but his eyes never left the tv.
“Over there is Adelaine’s older brother, Formula One Driver Alex Albon supporting her from the sidelines.”
“Alex, your phone.” I poked his arm but he didnt move.
“This is important.” He muttered.
“Alexander. It’s Addy.” His body twisted abruptly, looking in my direction before turning his attention to his phone. Adelaine’s name was on the screen, a couple of messages present. He paused for a moment before flickering through the messages.
“She wants to meet for dinner, she say’s it’s important and that she misses me. She said she wants to forget everything and that she just wants her brother back.” Alex scuffled through the apartment, grabbing his coat and wallet before pegging it out of the door, leaving me left on the sofa.
“And Adelaine Albon wins the Hungarian F2 Championship!” I pressed the off button quickly, letting the room fill with silence. I checked social media but to my dismay, I was still blocked. I flickered on to Jack’s story seeing they’d spent the day together at the zoo. It felt strange, watching from the outside.
“Lando, bud. You good?” George hummed from his bedroom doorway.
“Yeah G I’m good.”
I really wasn't doing good.
Addy’s POV
“Alex!” I squealed, running down the path and into his arms. It felt strange and I felt so unattached from his reality.
“Adelaine. I’ve missed you so much.” He lifted me from the ground, spinning me around before letting my feet meet the ground and leading me inside. We sat by the window and ordered our food, settling down. I felt nervous to talk.
“I called you here, for a couple of reasons really.” I started. He nodded firmly, offering out his hand to hold mine. It had always been a calming technique our parents had used when we were young- drawing circles on the palms of our hands.
“Firstly, I’ve given myself a year from the incident and just over six months from our last conversation to process things. I’ve forgiven George, completely. It took me a little longer to forgive you because I saw you everyday. I had to come to terms with the fact that although I’m your sister, Lando is your best friend. You knew McLaren was a dream for me but you also knew a F1 career was Lando’s dream and one of us was going to get hurt in the end. I came to terms with that fact that you didnt want to be the one to break the news to me and I understand. I’m ready to forgive you and to build us back.” I flittered my eyes up to see a smile creep on to his face before watching it fall flat again.
“But, what about Lando?”
“I’m not ready to forgive him, not yet. I’m still trying to come to terms with the fact he knew McLaren was the dream and still took it. I’ve come at peace with some things though. I know it’s his dream to race in F1 and it’s selfish of me to be upset with him to take that opportunity so I’m no longer hurt by that. I just can't trust him wholeheartedly. He didn’t talk to me, about the offer when it arose which is what hurts. He never asked how I felt about it. I would have supported him because he was my best friend and I really did like him back. If he was straight up about it, I wouldn't still be hurting.” I slipped my hand away, fixing the edge of my shirt as the food arrived.
“He still likes you, you know.”
“Oh, I know. He watches Jack’s stories everyday.” I shrugged, wrapping the pasta around my fork.
“Your other news?”
“What other news?”
“You said firstly...”
“Oh, yes. The important news.”

Addy’s POV
It was strange, oh so strange, to see Lando and George walk through the door. Every visit of theres had been planned to land during a time I was out of the house. I could no longer hide the tears behind the helmet as everything before me was real and raw. We gathered in the living room, sitting amongst the boxes.
“Just because I’ve called this meeting, it doesn't mean I want to be friends because I don't. Not right now at least. I just want to be in a place to process everything.” I started, looking between the three. Their faces were solum, sadness swimming in their eyes.
“Understood, Ad.” George smiled lightly.
“Thank you, G. I was actually planning to start with you first.” I breathed out, turning my attention to him.
“You’re the easiest to get through. I was hurt, as I was with the others, at the fact you never told me. This is the easiest because, although you never told me, I never gave you the chance. After the night that Lando ran out of the apartment, I segregated myself and we only ever communicated over text. Any plans to meet up were turned down because I feared I’d see him and for that, I am sorry. I can forgive you because you never had the chance, wether you planned to tell me or not.” I held my hand out in his direction. A smile crept on his face as he clasped my hand in his, pulling me from the box and into his arms.
“Addy, I’m so sorry. I wanted to tell you, believe me. It just wasn't a texting matter.”
“I understand.” I pulled away, looking between the two.
“Alexander.”
“Adelaine.”
“Do you know how heartbreaking it is to live day in and day out with the person you hold closest to your heart, not knowing that he knew a secret that would destroy you?”
“I know, Ad, but it wasn't my place to-”
“Alex. I know, it wasn't your place, but you never tried to get me into a place to find out. I found out, live on tv, in front of everybody. People knew, they could tell I didn’t know.”
“Adelaine, I’m so sorry.” His voice cracked, tears threatening to spill as Lando placed his hand on his back.
“Addy.”
“Don't call me that, Lando. You haven't earned the right.”
“Adelaine,” He started once again, “Please. This is my fault.”
“I know.”
“I wanted to tell you but,”
“Lando, we need to start from the beginning. From the kiss. I want an explanation, from start to finish.” As I finished speaking, he stood from beside Alex and sat to my side.
“That kiss, I’d been planning in my head for months. I’ve felt this weird feeling in my chest for such a long time and I kissed you, to figure it out and I got scared and ran. It wasn't anything you did, it was everything I did. I tried to figure it all out and I couldn't until I messaged you and received nothing which I understand. That’s when I realised how much I truly did like you. I knew there was something there but this whole love and work thing wouldn't work. I always said to Alex that we couldn't be together while we raced against one another. I said when you got the McLaren contract, when you were in F1 and I was in F2 that we could be together but then I thought, what about when I get to F1? How would things change? But at that time, I didnt care. It would have been a year by then and we’d make things work. And then McLaren contacted me. They said how much they loved you as a racer but didnt think you fitted in and that they wanted to sign me. I didnt even think that it would hurt you. I was so caught in this whole situation that if we didnt race together, we could be together. I had the opportunity to move up into F1, to no longer race you, to give us an opportunity to be together. Everything was signed and agreed when I told Alex and George. They told me I hadn't thought about it outside of the bubble and thats when I realised. I was stupid but I also had to do what was best for my career and for the potential of us.” He seemed out of breath by the end of it, clutching his chest in pain.
“Thank you, for this, all three of you. I think I know all I need to know. I just need some time, alright?” and with that, I stood from the box and headed out of the door in search of Jack.
