champiions:
never before has he taken someone into his academy upon the request of a friend. it didn’t seem fair and he didn’t want to create a false narrative about his wrestling academy where they would play favorites. but he made an exception for anna. she was young and she didn’t have a lot of training to her name. not to mention, brodie insisted that colby would take good care of someone who’s been through a career threatening injury when he’s had to train through an injury as well. he took special interest in her from the moment she stepped into one of his wrestling rings. not just because he found her to be rather attractive. she reminded colby a lot of himself when he was her age. young, motivated, a little stupid. he always insisted that she stay after. why? well, he didn’t speak of those reasons often. it was better left unsaid.
he chuckled when she shoved his shoulder. his arms were still crossed, long black locks tied back into a bun, and his attire was typing for training. loose black shorts and a grey shirt that represented his wrestling academy. “why’s there always got to be a reason, huh?” his footing readjusted and he stood back where he was before the shove. “if you don’t think you did anything wrong then you’ve got nothing to worry about. i thought we could have a chance to work together, one-on-one, without any interruptions again. you didn’t seem to mind it the last time.” the former world champion said as he walked over to the side of the ring where he had his phone. the volume of the music was turned down until it could faintly be heard through some of the speakers in the main room of the academy. “plus, you could’ve said no. i can’t force you to stay after if you have things to do.”
𝑯𝑰𝑺 𝑬𝑵𝑻𝑰𝑹𝑬 𝑷𝑬𝑹𝑺𝑶𝑵𝑨𝑳𝑰𝑻𝒀 𝑮𝑹𝑨𝑻𝑬𝑺. logic dictates that it’s because they’re too much alike - that anna can’t stand to herself embodied so closely in front of her. and maybe that’s true, maybe colby has the life she envisions for herself in a few years, but it doesn’t change the fact that it feels a little too on the nose. a little too abrasive when each action is met and mirrored with a fervor she’d not interested in. “ if you can’t name an actual, honest to god reason, i’m going to be forced to assume you just want to spend time with me. ” it’s meant to be a joke, uttered with a roll of baby blue eyes - but anna can’t help but wonder if there’s a layer of truth to it; if somehow he enjoys her company. she doesn’t want to dwell on that, doesn’t want to acknowledge the fact that even though she finds his presence annoying, maybe she enjoys it a little, too.
“ oh, so this isn’t mandatory? ” a tilt of her head, matched with the quirk of one singular brow as she settles herself comfortably into a corner of the ring. arms wrapped over the ropes, one foot rested against the lower turnbuckle. “ could’ve fooled me. ” she clears her throat then offers a snide grin, voice shifted a few octaves lower in an attempt to mimic his tone. “ i’ll see you after class, jay. ” it’s horribly off key, nowhere near close to a proper imitation, but that doesn’t stop anna from laughing nonetheless - doesn’t stop her from sticking her tongue out, either. “ right, and leave you to be all moody and angsty because you didn’t get your way? i’m doing everyone a favor by being here, you included. ”
