Was he raised by like servants at Irhaj house(yeah I do headcanon all the masters are rich)
Was he raised at other property occasionally receiving visits? Like he was being hidden from Irhaj family or friends?
I like to think he was raised at the same property but by servants, close to what happened with Robin in Babel, with occasionally receiving visits from Irja but mainly raised by teachers because I like to think like that, I don't think he was treated like an adoptive son because he was mute for 3 whole years before be found and I don't think that if Irjah saw him as a son he wouldn't insist into making him speak, I like to think that when he was experiencing the withdrawl effects he was burning himself exactly like Rin and that he trained combat alone to don't forget his speerly fighting style, when they reached golyn Niss and we receive the information that Irhaj was dead (if you prefer the theory he was raised like his son) Altan got that affected to use opium because of Irjah death or by the fact of finding out that all of his academical achievements meant nothing at war because Irjah was a genius and died that way.
Another headcanon I have is that Altan parents were truly important people at Speer that he had a high status there and that's why he felt somehow offended by being hidden, treated with shame and being ostracized by people at sinegard, bonus if his father or mother were important warriors, being hidden treated like an object from a young age and when rescued treated like something who was rare a being with no will just or a crazy monster or a general, not even for a single day Altan got to be seen as himself maybe that's why he become such a control freak among Rin and chaghan and everyone or an academic weapon, he wanted the same respect he knew he would have had of his parents were still alive and Speer still existed

First of all he was born into a rich family having a life of comfort and luxury but still kept humble, he treated rin like an human being but without pitying her, he is clever as fuck has the memory of an elephant and he always was gentle with rin specially at that festival scene, he lost everything at a war but still kept well he wasn't mourning or even complaining that much, he accepted anchoring himself to rin into a ritual he didn't understood fuck, believed her and her crazy friends (the cike) endured all the pain and the madness of Rin all the battles and trauma and he was still loyal to her for death and never truly told her about what he was passing through, he is wise and always loyal to his causes and what he stand up for he can fight well and has a great mind, is humble, was able to stay around Rin when she was going mad and enduring everything in silence to don't make her feel more distressed, the boy is a goal fr, even when Rin was being ostracized at sinegard he still was with her, every girl or boy should have a kitay in their life's.
I was just thinking the fact about how Altan was tragic from the beginning, first being kidnapped and tortured acquiring an addiction to a drug you don't have access, when saved finding out your own people is in ashes and that now you have to live and serve the people who did it (without knowing) and study your ass off to acquire perfection at combat and academically totally alone, not even a friend or someone to guide you, knowing that there it was no one at his backbone that he couldn't fail and it all with a crazy goddess nagging him speaking at his head, suffering prejudice from his peers, and I was reading TPW again and when I reached the chapter of the festival I was thinking of how Altan had no one to be at the festival with him or to be with him and he got used to always be the best but then he got at a war were he had to be a leader of unstable people, deal with Battles and the goddes getting more and more string at your head just to at the end die destroying the very thing who was the first to break you and end up being the indirect reason that the other last one of your people is going insane
