Wrong Parameters: Occupation
It’s hard to say there is a highlight to being made redundant, unless it gets you out of a workplace you weren’t gelling with.
When I left Notified/Intrado, the highlight was that they referred me to Outplacement Services: a team of resume writers and careers advisors. They presented me with the opportunity to evaluate where I was at in my career. This involved psychometric testing and time with a coach. My imagination zoomed in many different directions: what was I going to do when I grew up?
Stripped of ego, I was a blank slate. I have revisited childhood career ideas and explored completely new directions. The key piece of advice the coach gave me, though, was to ‘have my cake and eat it, too.’ He recommended I find anything to provide cashflow, and to give myself time to understand where I was going to find my flow state.
I am a lot closer to knowing what I will do next. In the meantime, I have been fortunate enough to get some work at MCEC as a Multimedia and AV Tech. That has put me in front of some lovely toys - I mean tools of the trade. And the good family at Notified called upon me to do some onsite for a Results announcement.
Being in that room with a few of the investor relations team brought me right back to the impetus behind this consultancy.
There is work to be done. Not sure if I am having my cake, but that’s okay.
