a  stack  of  letters.  they  sit  comfortably  on  her  kitchen  counter.  the  stack  grows  higher  each  time  her  grandparents  come  to  visit  --  one  of  them  always  sneaking  one  of  those  letters  in.  [  betty  cannot  tell  you  why  --  she  knows  her  grandparents  do  not  have  the  best  opinion  of  the  writer  of  said  letters.  ]  she  knows  who  they’re  from  ,  assumes  what  they  contain.  but  she’s  not  ready  for  that.  [  betty  doesn’t  know  if  she’ll  ever  be  ready  for  that.  ]  the  letters  often  pass  her  mind  nowadays  --  even  though  they  sit  in  such  a  visible  area  ,  they  blend  into  the  background  for  her.  because  who  is  she  if  she  gave  power  to  those  stupid  letters  --  &  by  extension  ,  her  father  ?  [  nope  ,  let’s  not  entertain  that  idea.  ]  &  let’s  be  clear :  betty  is  not  antisocial.  but  she  rarely  lets  people  in  this  apartment  !  because  it’s  her  safe  space.  a  space  where  she  can  be  who  she  is  without  judgement.  [  yes  ,  it’s  an  honor  to  be  invited  in  here.  ]  the  rapport  she  has  built  with  @worthfuls​  made  her  feel  like  she  was  ready  to  let  her  into  the  space.  too  bad  she  didn’t  think  about  moving  those  damn  letters.
