personally, i always loved dan + phil before they published their first book. after that something seemed somewhat off about them and they seemed less genuine. i was an avid fan and even went to see them on tour
although after the tour i just couldn’t look at them the same. they just blended in with all the other youtubers who were following “trends” like writing books, going on tour, starting a gaming channel, etc. i also associate them with a lot of my toxic shitty friends, so leaving those friends sorta made me fall out of the phandom and helped me in realizing that having an obsession over two grown men and shipping them to the point where it’s creepy writing weird fan fictions and weird art was… not healthy behavior, at least for me
they basically just seem like they’re manipulating their fan base by pushing these “phan” moments on them, publishing the two books along with two tours, releasing pricey merch because they know their fanbase will most certainly eat it up
