Honestly, I don't think Lance knows a damn thing about gun safety except "don't aim at yourself"

Some headcanons.

Typically, staves and wands are used to direct magic instead of through your hand, because if you mess up and something gets blown up, would you rather it be your hand or a stick? As such:

Natalie is ambidextrous. She was taught to be so, because even if your stick blows up instead, you may still wreck your arm. She actually prefers to use her right hand, but uses her left hand for casting. She was pushed from a young age to learn, and has had more than a few close calls.

Lance's guns are essentially staves with a higher chance of blowing him up. He does absolutely use magic in his fighting, but it's more what he picked up from old books in Redpine. Lance also doesn't have a whole lot of magical ability from birth, so his guns are what gives him most his power.

Headcanon: Lance is allergic to cats to the point of needing an EpiPen(tm) if they bite or scratch him. Also he thinks cats suck. These two aren't related. Even if he wasn't allergic, he'd still dislike them.
