I love this guy.
A trope I do not care for in anime is when a masked character removes their mask/helmet and it's just some generic dude. Like if you asked ai to generate an anime character, that is what they'd come up with.
Where Is Anne Frank? Movie Review
Where Is Anne Frank? is a strange movie about Anne Frank's diary Kitty coming to life and, going out in search of Anne. The movie shifts back and forth between modern day Amsterdam and 1940's occupied Amsterdam.
The art style is based off the graphic novel version of Anne Frank's diary but, I have to say, it's very awkward looking at times. And the couple of songs in the movie while sung beautifully, it felt more like padding for time rather than necessary.
It has a good message at it's heart, but it's handled very clumsily. Drawing parallels to nazi occupation to the modern refugee crisis and, how many countries refuse to help or acknowledge refugees with human decency. Many deciding that the dangerous countries are somehow "safe" despite multiple reports stating otherwise.
One thing I hate in media of any kind, is when they depict nazis as a shrouded mass of evil, like something out of a fantasy novel. The nazis were evil, are evil and, always will be evil. But when you show them like masked entities, you take away the human side of it. The nazis were ordinary civilians, they were evil humans but they were still human. And when you ignore that fact, you make it look ridiculous and not real. The phrase the banality of evil came from the fact that the nazi were ordinary people. People, who nonetheless did horrific things as easily as breathing. People who would shoot people in the street for fun.
This movie should have been about Anne. Plain and simple. But it's such a weird mess of different ideas that they can't keep track of. I mean Kitty, the embodiment of Anne's diary falls in love? Why is this a thing? And it's frustrating because it does have some good points hidden in there. Not just about the abhorrent way that refugees are treated but also, how people treat the Anne Frank house as something to tick off a bucket list or a tourist destination and not the somber experience it should be. A little girl was murdered and you're treating her last refuge of safety as a tourist trap.
This movie was disappointing. When I had first seen the trailer years ago, I had hoped for something better. If you're serious about who Anne Frank was, skip this movie. 2/5.
Mountains are just volcanoes wearing hats, they can, at any point, take off.
Hey Funko what the actual fuck?
Why did you decide it was neccersary to capture one of the most devistating moments in Nami's life in a cute funko pop form, blood, tears and all?
What the actual fuck?
Anyone who's watched or read the Arlong Park Arc knows what scene I'm talking about.
"Hey let's make a Nami funko for the Arlong Park Arc of One Piece."
"Oh what about one based on Nami's childhood with her mum and sister? Or when she's decided to join the Straw Hats and leaves her home town behind?"
"Nah, let's make one for when she's at her breaking point, you know when she's so emotionally damaged by what has happened that she's tearing into her own arm with her fingernails and screaming in agony? Yeah, sounds great. Let's get them in production asap."
A lot of detective shows (mostly modern ones) are terrible at making sense. Good detective shows leaves clues throughout that when the reveal happens, you go "OH!" or "I knew it!" it makes sense.
But bad detective shows try to do the red herring twist but they don't actually make it make sense. The clues are nonsense. Or they just randomly point at someone and go "It was that person because of bullshit made up reason that no one could ever have guessed."
It's like a jigsaw with missing pieces that someone has shoved random shapes in their place.
I'd love to see Rosie's backstory. Obviously, it has something to do with cannibalism but she seems(at present) such a sweet women. Her outfit is giving late Victorian- early Edwardian.
Just Dance 2026 - Born To Be Alive!
I love stop-motion and came across this cutie while watching Just Dance playthroughs.
Sakuko didn't deserve that.
I love the slow reintroduction to more traditional anime styles with shows like Kowloon and, the recent Cat's Eye reboot. Don't get me wrong the newer anime style is cute and can be beautiful in it's own way. But old school anime will always have a special place in my heart.
Why I Stopped Watching Rainbow High
I used to love watching Rainbow High. It was a fun mini drama about the day to day lives of High School girls attending a fashion/multimedia school. Did it have it's flaws? Of course it did. But overall it was a fun show to tune into once a fortnight. But then MGA marketing got more and more involved, and as a result ruined the show.
The moment the crystal eggs and shimmers plot line was introduced, I just checked out mentally. I hung around hoping for them to return to the school plot line as, you know, students but not really.
The school plot line concentrated on personal and interpersonal relationships in a grounded space. The school wasn't just a backdrop, it served a purpose. The classmates, the senior students, teachers, they all had a role. A story, relationships, drama. What used to be "Hey, why not buy our merch?" became "BUY OUR MERCH!!! BUY IT!!! BUY IT NOW!!!"
I miss the old Rainbow High. If they somehow retcon the show and return to the old format, I might consider returning to watch it but until then, I'm not interested.
Trying to find a C/K/J Drama that's a costume romance about an older man with facial hair. Everybody out here looking like they just stepped off stage from their boy bands tour.
If the main character doesn't look similar to Hiroyuki Sanada in Shogun, I'm not interested.
Really enjoy reading With You and the Rain so far. It's an adorable manga (which has an anime coming soon) about a women who adopts a tanuki thinking it's a dog. And just look at this cute goober.
Was browsing manga online to see if there was anything new and interesting and accidentally stumbled onto someone's rightwing playbook in disguise.
What do I mean? It's using "Aliens" as a metaphor for foreigners as a way to complained about immigrants. The Aliens are depicted as having helped save earth from a meteor and living in harmony with humans since. Except, now they outnumber humans in certain areas of the world. That they're unapologetic, clumsy, loud and violent, abusive creatures. And best of all, the aliens don't speak the local language. All the while the main character's inner monologue is all "but I guess I can't say that, huh?"
If your rightwing bs alarm isn't going off already, it needs re-tuning.
In any case I dropped it and now I've ranted about it, I'm moving on.
The greatest love story of our generation.
Maria Watches Over Us Season 1
Maria Watches Over Us season 1 follows the story of first year student, Yumi as she attends an all girls catholic school. After praying to St Maria before class one day, she is joined by Sachiko. Like many of her classmates, Yumi is in awe of the second year prodigy. So, when she is picked to become Sachiko's Little Sister, she struggles to believe that she is worthy.
This anime took me two episodes to get into but I'm so glad I did. Yumi is endearing while also being very earnest. Sometimes when people make earnest characters they easily tilt into obnoxious but Yumi is able to stay sweet without becoming sickly. Her early doubts about whether Sachiko chose her to be her little sister because she liked her or because she's convenient. It's only when Sachiko stops trying to convince Yumi to take her rosary and, sees Yumi as a person and, Yumi is able to see Sachiko as her true vulnerable self, that finally Yumi accepts her rosary.
One of my favourite episodes is The White Petals. Following on from the events of The Forest of Briars, the episode shows a glimpse into the past. And yes, I cried at the train station scene.
My only issues I had with this anime was that Yumi's design in comparison to the other characters was very distracting to begin with but a few episodes in and I got used to it. And also this anime doesn't have an official English Dub. But other than that I really enjoyed my time with this anime. 4/5.
Tweedy and Fluff
Tweedy and Fluff is a stop motion, episodic series about a tweed hedgehog-like creature and their pet ball of fluff. Tweedy and Fluff is an adorable and charming show, consisting of short 5 minute episodes. Each episode shares a day in their life together, living in secret in a human occupied house. One episode might be about playing with soap bubbles while another might be about making a see-saw. But regardless of the subject matter, each moment is absolutely darling and endearing.
I love Tweedy and Fluff's relationship. I love that fluff sounds like a guinea pig but acts like a mix of a cat and a dog rolled into one. It's one of those shows that makes you smile. This show needs more eyes on it. If you haven't checked it out, give it a watch. 5/5.
