When did Dean realize he loved Cas?
Dean realized he loved Cas when he laughed his ass off with Cas in the brothels back 5x03. He realized this angel brought him smiles and laughter when he needed it most, even unintentionally.
He realized he loved Cas when the angel slammed him against the wall of dark alley and yelled at him for accepting Michael, in 5x18. Dean accepted every punch and beating, because he had let Cas down.
He realized he loved Cas when the sting of his betrayal in 6x20 was unbelievably painful. He realized that if it were anyone else, he would kill them. But this was Cas.
He realized he loved Cas when the latter walked into the lake and died in 7x02. So he picked up the trenchcoat and carried it everywhere with him. But it didn’t change the pain: the real Cas was gone.
He realized he loved Cas when he saw him again in 7x17. Was he real? How did the angel not remember him? They would work out their problems, but at least Dean had Castiel back.
He realized he loved Cas after spending a year in Purgatory looking for the angel in 8x02, even though he could have left with Benny. The happiness was so intense when he found his angel that he had to grab Cas to him and hold him. He realized he needed the angel just as much as he needed Sam.
He realized he loved Cas in 8x17, when the angel dropped his blade in the face of the words “I need you.” Even after all the pain Cas had just caused him, he forgave him and still loved him.
He realized he loved Cas in 9x01, when he found out the angel was, in fact, no longer an angel. The worry he felt was excruciating. Cas was about a hundred times more vulnerable now, and he could die as easily as Dean. He implored the man to take care of himself.
He realized he loved Cas in 9x03, when Cas died. He was human now, and death was so much more permanant in Dean’s eyes. He almost cried in relief when Gadreel brought him back.
He realized he loved Cas when the angel did everything he could, throughout season 9 and 10, to cure him of the Mark. He knew then that Cas would do whatever it took, and he was grateful even if he didn’t know it at the time.
He realized he loved Cas in 10x22, when the Mark of Cain urged him to kill the angel, yet he just couldn’t. He stopped himself, just with that whispered “Please” From the angel. He wondered how he did it, because if it were anyone else, they’d be dead
He realized he loved Cas in 11x03, when the Attack-Dog spell was cured from Cas. He cupped his angel’s face in his hand and smiled in relief.
He realized he loved Cas during the whole time he knew that Cas was posessed by Lucifer(11x11 to 11x22). So worried that he couldn’t focus on getting a case, because what if something happened to his angel? And when Lucifer fought Amara, Dean’s first thought was not for the supposed deepest darkest desire of his heart. It was for Cas.
He realized he loved Cas in 11x23, when he went to check on Lucifer and it was Castiel who stared up at him insted. Relief and happiness wore on him for the entire episode, he even told Cas how much he meant to him, because what if he didn’t have the chance to do it again? Gently letting the angel hug him near the end was a big deal for Dean-what happened to “no chick-flick moments”?
He realized he loved Cas in 12x10, when the angel had killed Billie. He was angry, because he didn’t know what “cosmic consequenses” would mean for Cas. But he knew he would have done the same thing if the angel’s life was in danger. He was still overprotective of Cas throughout the entire episode, despite the angel’s blunder.
He realized he loved Cas when Lucifer stabbed him in 12x23. His mother “died” shortly after, but Dean’s only thoughts were for the angel as he fell to his knees beside his lifeless body and the wings burned into the ground.
He realized he loved Cas when he knew the angel was permanantly dead. He couldn’t live without him. Dean needed Castiel. His will to live was gone, and he had hit the rock bottom.
He realized he loved Cas in 13x06, when he barely questionned Cas’s return, and strode to him straight to hug him. Hope had returned, his smile had returned. Castiel was back, and so was Dean.
