in canada, mass graves of hundreds of children who were murdered at residential schools have been uncovered. this country keeps sweeping this under the rug with empty promises and apologies. you can donate to the indian residential school survivors society. if you are indigenous or know any other places to donate, please add on to this post.

The sabbats are holidays celebrated throughout the year on solstices, equinoxes, and the midpoints between them. These sabbats form the Wheel of the year.
There is a controversy surrounding the dates of these holidays, as people celebrate them all over the earth, not only in the northen hemisphere but in the southern too.
One viewpoint is that the Sabbats should be celebrated as they were originally created to be… in other words, Samhain is October 31st, regardless of where you live. In the Southern Hemisphere, even though you are just gearing up to summer on October 31st, this perspective says that you celebrate the cleansing and releasing, the honouring of the dead just as you would if you lived in the Northern Hemisphere. The other viewpoint (the one I personally agree with) is that you should celebrate when you feel like the season corresponds with the holiday, in other words, your craft, your rules. So if you live in the southern hemisphere, you have the choice.
I’ll be writing the dates for each holiday starting with the northen hemisphere and then the dates that many people celebrate them in the southern hemisphere

This is absolutely not a definitive list and if you have more information or recommendations please feel free to add it!
Anthony Mackie is doing THAT and then some and I need yall to start giving this man his flowers! We are on episode 2 of this show and he has shown y'all in TWO EPISODES why he got a stellar ass career next to big names and he also is showing yall why he gets overlooked. This is the first show I've heard aside from Zendaya's K.C. Undercover (through a Disney property) where the black lead gets input through the creative writing process. It's because OF ANTHONY MACKIE and MALCOLM SPELLMAN that we got this show, NOT because of Sebastian Stan and don't get it twisted because baby boy will tell you the same thing, he made that ABUNDANTLY known with the "there is no Bucky Barnes without Sam Wilson", the story about how Bucky's arc was gonna end in Endgame amongst many other things. The same way y'all showed Chadwick all this love when he passed for his roles etc give that same love to Mackie now while he's alive because he absolutely deserves it! There's no reason the number one name on the call sheet, the creator of Stackie, a Juilliard ALUM, with an extremely impressive resume, a man who follows the lead of the very character he plays Sam Wilson in real life, the man that got Disney to ACKNOWLEDGE company racism but as well as got the mfers to do a whole show on it!?! NO absolute reason he shouldn't be trending EVERY FRIDAY alongside Sebastian Stan. There is no reason Sam Wilson shouldn't be trending EVERY FRIDAY. GIVE ANTHONY MACKIE HIS RESPECT!
your future self loves you. they will look through old photos of you with affection, not disgust, nor embarrassment. they wish they could tell you stories of your future, of how much you’ll change, of the people you’ll meet, of how you’ll eventually learn to accept yourself, then love yourself. they will read your diary entries and poems and favourite lyrics, heart aching, tears in their eyes. if only you knew...
your future self loves you. if only they could show you. they are living proof. you’ll turn out okay after all. they wish they were there to console you, dance with you, and make you write it a hundred times: “I AM LOVED”. they will listen to playlists you made, just to experience you again. they will write you a letter - of forgiveness, longing, reassurance. you will never read it. but you will know.
hey quick question, what the fuck is an Athame
It’s a name for the ritual dagger/knife. Such knives usually (but not always) have black handles.
The word is French originally, and I believe Gerald Gardner (??) was the first witch to name the dagger that - prior to that, they were just called daggers, I think. Here’s a picture of my athame. It was made from the femur of a stag.
The athame, in many traditions, represents the element of Air, but for some, it represents fire. For me, as you can see, it’s Air - but the symbol is inverted because the knife is upside down in the picture.
I personally never use my athame to cut physical things (I have a separate knife for that), but some witches probably do. Most of these knives are metal - my stag bone was an usual choice, but I’m happy with it so far.
I couldn’t have stopped myself even if I tried…
ethereal things to stay alive for
flowers blooming
hugging someone after a long time
wandering in bookstores
late night talks
listening to vinyl records
walking through forests
the smell of rain
dancing late at night
fairy lights
seeing jellyfish
listening to nature in the morning
flower meadows
You are allowed
nay, encouraged to…
buy books you’ll never read
abandon books halfway through
read your favorites over and over again
read ‘easy’ books
read books you don’t totally understand
just look at the pictures
start in the middle
take notes
break spines
read the book after you saw the movie
skip the boring parts
keep books out of sentiment
bring a book everywhere
read comics
return books to the library unread
The point, my dear reader, is joy.
🔮 13 goals of a witch 🔮
How to cultivate each goal
✨ I. Know yourself: practice mindfulness and meditation, start journaling daily, analyze your dreams, define your core values, take a few minutes every day to pause and observe the world around you, make lists of everything that defines you (your favorite movies, your political beliefs, your favorite books, your best and worst memories, etc).
🕯️ II. Know your craft: understand the different types of witches, and which one you feel closest to, define your position on religion vs. spirituality, learn about witchcraft, wicca and paganism, meet with witches online or in your city, attend workshops and seminars on spirituality, tarot, and herbalism, acquire knowledge in the history of your craft.
📚 III. Learn: never stop learning, read books from different point of view, understand the intersectionality of witches’ experience, learn about witches from other cultures, understand the link between feminism and witchcraft, record everything you are learning in a journal, and learn from different sources (books, podcasts, online forums, social media, articles, academic papers, documentaries etc).
🦉 IV. Apply knowledge with wisdom: use everything you are learning to make informed decisions about your life, find mentors and experienced witches to learn from, wisdom is acquired through experience so practice your craft, and accept that you will make mistakes, write them down in your journal to remember them and learn from them.
⚖️ V. Achieve balance: embrace opposites, take care of yourself and work hard on your dreams, list your priorities for the coming months and focus on them, maintain a schedule and give yourself peaceful moments during the day, have diverse hobbies that fit into your craft (writing, gardening, crafting, cooking, baking, exercising), balance your time surrounded by people and your time spent alone.
💭 VI. Keep your thoughts in good order: journal your daily life, use tarot and divination as tools to understand yourself, practice setting intentions, use mantras as guidance in your meditation, identify your negative thoughts and practice spells and rituals of banishment for this negative energy, learn breathing exercises to keep your mind connected with the body.
💬 VII. Keep your words in good order: take yourself seriously, be mindful about what you say to yourself and to others, understand the power and bond of a promise, use words as verbalization of your intentions, practice honesty and avoid lying, speak out loud when spell casting.
🎉 VIII. Celebrate life: practice gratefulness by writing daily lists of everything you are grateful for in your life, enjoy daily rituals and the magic of everyday life, plan and organise witches’ sabbats with loved ones, or by yourself, celebrate every accomplishment and every victory.
🌙 IX. Attune with the cycles: learn about the seasonal changes and the witches’ sabbats to acquire a stronger connection to the sun and the earth, celebrate pagan festivals and the Wheel of the Year, practice your magic in connection to the lunar cycle, understand the power of each moon phase, and accept that your energy levels are not always the same, which means that you cannot hold the same expectations on yourself all the time.
🥦 X. Breath and eat correctly: learn yoga, meditation and breathing exercises, practice stretching your body and breathing to expand your muscles, do not diet or restrict but learn to eat healthy while indulging on guilty pleasures sometimes, abstain from regular usage of drugs or alcohol, practice healthy habits.
🤸 XI. Exercise the body: learn to love your body no matter what, and practice self-love by moving it in a way that feels right to you, have walks and hikes in nature, build your strength, learn flexibility exercises, practice cardio to breath better, not to lose weight, switch training exercises regularly, and focus on moving your body everyday.
🧘 XII. Meditate: thrive to meditate at least 10 minutes daily, use mantras to set specific intentions or practice breathing techniques, do not hesitate to use YouTube videos or apps to learn it, meditation is a skill just like anything else, practice for 30 minutes or 1 hour straight at least once a month, join meditation classes or zen temples to get help from a community.
🙏 XIII. Honor your deities: educate yourself on deities you’d like to follow, based on symbolism and what they represent, understand their connection to you and practice rituals to honor them, be mindful of what you ask of them, learn to draw a circle to protect yourself from harmful spirits while calling on them, and if you do not feel comfortable with personified Goddesses and Gods, honor nature deities such as the Moon, the Sun, and the Earth.
In 2021 I will reach my goals, I will be in love, I will be successful, healthy and proud. Things will always be in my favour with the universe guidance ✨💓🥰
If you are panicking because you think you’ve missed Imbolc, it’s ok. While the 1st of February is the traditional date, the astrological date is always when the sun reaches 15° in the sign of Aquarius. This year, the astrological date is the 4th of February. So take a breath, and do what you can when you can. You haven’t missed anything.
Also, what I like to keep in mind is that the Wheel of the Year is something that was made in the ‘70s. Our traditions are less than 50 years old.
Our ancestors didn’t celebrate on a set calender date, they observed and then honoured nature. Imbolc was (probably) celebrated when the first lambs were born and the sheep started giving milk. Beltaine was (probably) celebrated when the maythorn first bloomed. Lughnasadh was (probably) celebrated after the first harvest where people gathered together to see the last cart be brought in. You can’t set nature to a calender.
Imbolc could have been anywhere from late January to halfway through February and would differ per region and even per town. They also would have celebrated whenever life (work, family, providing for one another) gave them a moment to do so, because certain things cannot be postponed because of a celebration.
So celebrate whenever you have a moment. Don’t let a calender dictate your moments of fun and festivities. And don’t let a calender dictate your spiritual growth. Take, and make, your own time.
This is so important! Don’t beat yourself up because you’re not celebrating at the exact date or time! We don’t need this kind of energy!
Happy Imbolc!
You survived another week in a very tough world, even though at times it felt like you wouldn’t, and I’m so proud of you.
