A time to cast away stones, and a time to think that rabbi Jehuda has one of the craziest off-screen character development in the whole game (mb accidentally but whatever)
My man from 13XX urgently evacuates his pregnant daughter from Kolin and tries to sell everyone on an idea that his grandson is the most legitimate Jew in history. And yes, this is to protect Sara's honor and Sam's position in the community, but in reality, it is... not the end of the world. Sam isn't a some kind of mamzer, not a single christian woman converted to Judaism (a division of women between abrahamic religions was a real nightmare), and with the right money Jehuda could have punished Martin (difficult, but not impossible, because we could talk about damaging royal property). But Jehuda does what he does. And yes, I can come up with alternative additional reasons for the actions but I like to think (and this is a superficial thought!) that Jehuda also saved his authority as the head of the community.
But the plan didn't work and the community knows everything, this is evident in the pre-pogrom dialogues, where Sam is bickering with his zayde. And the zayde is :) pretty chill :)
More than that, old wise Jehuda from 1403, guided by the gentle hand of a screenwriter, simply tells a first christian he meet that his grandson is a bastard of a random blacksmith. "For our numerous sins", maaaan!..
Jehuda from 1403 let go of his pride, humbled himself, but didn't lose the will to live. Jehuda loves his hot-head grandson, his daughter, his community and believes in the best and in justice even in the darkest hours. And tries to do everything to make dawn come faster! Damn, mb he could have written the book of Kohelet (Ecclesiastes) himself.
I love rabbi Jehuda sooo much.
