And here, after well over half a years work, are my sanders sides rooms.
left top Patton, left bottom Janus, middle top Roman, centre Logan, middle bottom Remy, right top Remus, right bottom Virgil
I will do better pictures, but that'll wait until Thursday cause I refuse to have even tumblr on my phone and laptop is staying home while I visit the main office for work.
there is a half started fanfic about Thomas going through these rooms, somewhat to explain what the things are because without my doodles a few of the items (looks at Remus's with narrowed eyes) are hard to understand what they're meant to be.
the issue with using the sides colours schemes in their cross stitch once again becomes what goes in the background now?
My answer is no pair the sides up, then swap their secondary colour.
Secondary colour is black? Background shall be white. White? Background shall be black. Grey? swap light for dark shades.
The pairs will be Dukexiety, cause they both work with, or to increase, Thomas's fears. Moceit, cause lets be real, Patton and Janus are literally both morality, with different focuses to build morals from. Logince, cause I had them left over :D Nah, it's cause they're motivators. Sure fear motivates, morals can too, but Logan and Roman are the most goal oriented sides.
And cause I did include Remy in these cross stitches, he's not getting a background, the bed is being put outside so it's just a scene now.
We are on the last two backgrounds now. Janus's is over half done, Patton's background not begun and honestly, I doubt I have any dark grey in enough supply to manage his...
And I want them all finished by Monday night because then I can sew a napkin grid with no thoughts or plans while on a trip to the other work office for a few days.
Summary: Logan was trying to experiment to get Thomas better sleep. Now all the Sides plus Remy are wandering around the town Dallergut's Dream Department Store is in and Maxim, a Nightmare producer is simply trying to help find them all after three invade his workshop.
Author's note: I have 3 stories currently in WIP status I wanted to get finished, instead my brain took me back to Dallergut's and I'm not arguing.
~
“Oh, this is where you make me?” Remus crowed, climbing through the covered window of the workshop. “Bit dull. You are a nightmare maker, right?”
“Who are you? Why are you here?” Maxim stared, uncertain if he should chase the man jumping between the tools and tables of his workshop or fix the things already disturbed to prevent as many future issues as he could.
“Remus. Thomas’s nightmares. You’ve not been selling him enough of me and-”
“Sorry Babes. Logan’s been doing experiments that are messing my nights up completely.” A near identical man to Remus cut him off by hoisting him over his shoulder as soon as he’d invited himself through the door of the workshop. “Dallergut said I could use a room at the store to sort it out in, but I need to find them all first. You see anyone that looks like us with one of these names, drag them there.”
Leaving a note behind and keeping a firm hold of Remus on his shoulder, the man left as quickly as he’d come. Maxim stared after them in bewilderment.
“But it’s so dull for a nightmare factory,” He could hear being yelled down the street. “I could help.”
With one last glance outside, he decided to stay out of whatever was happening and focused on returning his workshop to normal.
The peace didn’t last long before a knock came at his door and Maxim was faced with another man similar to his earlier intruders.
“Sup, I’m Virgil. Please tell me here is quieter than everywhere else?” He invited himself in, and Maxim decided that knocking was not enough manners for the intrusion.
Even if it meant he’d be involved with whatever was happening, he grabbed Virgil’s wrist, “I’m taking you back to Dallergut’s. That’s where the guy who carried Remus off said you’re meant to be.
Despite hunching in as they neared the more crowded main street, Virgil seemed unbothered about being led by a stranger. He looked around cautiously regardless but as he recognised the entrance they were approaching asked, “Was it Logan who got Remus?”
Maxim checked the note he’d pocketed while tidying, “That name is on the list so probably not. Didn’t introduce himself either. Penny might know a customer number but it’s rare we know names of sleeping customers.”
“Probably Remy then. Logan wanted to make Thomas sleep better so now we’re all here and Remy got mad over it.” Virgil muttered in reply.
Thankfully Maxim didn’t need to worry over where Virgil was meant to go as Penny spotted them immediately, waving them over. Along the counter, the man Virgil had guessed was Remy was stood with Vigo Myers and Dallergut discussing something seriously.
“Maxim! You found one of the wanderers!” Penny called, getting the trios attention too.
“Sup,” Virgil did a two-fingered salute, “You found all of us now?”
Remy groaned, taking a drink from a travel cup he hadn’t had earlier. “No, Patton and Roman are still missing.”
Virgil thought for a moment before rolling his eyes, as if he could have already found them, “Patton was fawning over the cuddly guys and Roman probably wanted to try something heroic or death defying.”
Dallergut looked at him shrewdly for a moment before turning to Maxim, dashing hopes that his involvement in whatever was going on was over. “Would you mind checking the Noctiluca Laundry while we look around town, Maxim? It seems you’ve connected well with Customer 765 so far.”
He started to nod as Remy moved to lean against Dallergut’s shoulder, “Dallergut, babes, there are seven of us currently. We can’t all be ‘Customer 765’. Just use our names.”
“That would be informal and impolite. You are Customer 765A. The tie wearer B, The one trying to make weapons C, the one with a cape D and this person here E. Now we should begin our search for F and G,” Myers insisted. “Preferably before B thinks of a new experiment.”
“Sure thing.” Remy huffed, reaching out to take Virgil’s wrist from Maxim’s grasp. “Virgil, I’ll show you where the others are. Be a dear and tell Remus something to focus him on Logan.”
Virgil snorted, “I’ll tell him everyone thinks Logan is doing his job better than he is. See what happens with that. Warning, it could make him try to learn how to do sleep experiments from Logan.”
Maxim glanced at the group there, sending a hesitant smile to Penny and debating asking if she’d come with him before deciding that he should just head straight to the Laundry before more could be asked of him.
~
The Noctiluca Laundry was the same as ever when Maxim arrived, moving quietly through the familiar caves, past all the work going on to see who was resting there.
“Maxim, you look like you’re on a mission.” Atlas greeted before he’d reached most of the sleeping customers.
He nodded, turning to his father, “Dallergut asked for help with Customer 765. We think 765 F or G might be here.”
“Remy, I believe, but I’ve not seen him recently.” Atlas replied, thinking of the current sleeping customers present. “But someone who introduced himself as Patton does look remarkably like him. He’s fascinated by the Noctiluca and has insisted on helping.”
Maxim sighed, pulling the note from earlier out again but already recognising the name. “That’s no 765. Whereabouts is he?”
“Through here if you’re sure?” Atlas was more openly confused than he was allowing himself to be.
Deciding to offer the partial explanation he’d been able to surmise and hopefully prevent gossip between Dallergut and Atlas over his involvement, Maxim shared, “It’s like this sleeping customers is split into multiple people after doing some kind of experiment.”
As he led them through, Atlas considered the words before smiling at his son, “You could make a dream about this happening once it’s resolved. Show people how their worries, fears or wonders change them perhaps.”
“The first no 765 I met said I already make him.” He commented, spotting the sleeping customer he’d come to find.
“Hi!” He waved at them enthusiastically, “How are you kiddos?”
Atlas coughed to hide a chuckle, clearly having expected the greeting but still amused by its use. “I’m still fine, Patton. I’m going back to my tasks now.”
Maxim shook his head after him before turning back to the customer. “I’d much prefer to be having a quiet evening working, but I’ve been asked to help find you. Want to come back to Dallergut’s store with me?”
“Wasn’t I meant to explore?” Patton asked, easily standing to join Maxim. “Logan said we were here to learn how to improve Thomas’s sleep then went off on his own without saying anything more.”
“From what I’ve heard so far tonight, I don’t think Logan should have been giving any instructions at all.” Maxim muttered, but tried to keep a neutral or welcoming expression in case no 765 F decided not to come back. “There should only be a number for each customer, so the fact that there are multiple of you, no 765 is something that needs resolving and the usual appearance you make here is apparently called Remy.”
Patton nodded eagerly, following without any need for a hand on his wrist when Maxim started to lead them out of the Noctiluca Laundry. “Yes, Sleep is what Remy is in charge of so if this is where Thomas comes to dream then it would be Remy you’d meet.”
“And what would you say you’re in charge of?” He asked, wondering if there had already been something unusual about no 765 before this happened.
“Morality, optimism and puns.” The words were stated proudly just as the commuter train pulled up to the station.
Maxim moved straight to the driver, his identification badge on show. “This is a sleeping customer who is having issues and needs returning to Dallergut’s to be cared for. Might no 765 be allowed on the train?”
“Special permission granted. Dallergut called the service to inform us you might be openly bringing a sleeping customer aboard.” The driver replied.
Hoping that this would be the end of his quests, Maxim relaxed into his seat after getting Patton to sit next to him.
Instead, Patton yelped, seeing something over the side of the train. “Is that Roman?!” He exclaimed, trying to lean over Maxim to see over the edge.
There does seem to be someone climbing the cliff-face of the Dizzying Downhill but Maxim can’t see them clearly enough to know if it is the final no 765 or not. He resolves not to be the person trying to get them back to the department store, and tugs Patton to sit down.
“If it is 765 G, then once you are back at Dallergut’s we will tell the management where we’ve seen him and ask them for a plan on how to retrieve him.” He explains.
“But Roman could be in danger!”
Patton seemed ready to jump out of his seat again, when the driver turned to glare at them, “Remain seated. If you are discussing the person attempting to scale the cliff, rescue services have been notified and are on route to retrieve them. They will then be directed to somewhere safe that they should rationally be.”
Maxim nodded in thanks at them, “See. If it is, Roman did you say?, then he will be brought to safety without you risking everyone on the train.”
“But-” For a moment it seemed like Patton would protest more before he gave up, “I still wish we could help him now.”
“Do you do a lot of climbing in your daily life?” He asked, knowing how some of the dreams he’d sold had focused on falling from heights according to the reviews, until the customer decided they could climb in dreams or do something else to conquer the fear.
With a pout, no 765 F huffed into his seat, remained still and silent for the rest of the journey.
~
“I found another Customer 765.” Maxim said when leading Patton over to Penny, the trio from earlier now absent. “And he’s fairly sure that the last known wandering 765 is trying to climb down the Dizzying Downhill.”
The greeting Penny had clearly been about to say remained silent as her face fell into concern, but before asking for more explanation she reached for the stores tannoy system. “Dallergut or Myers, please come to the front desk.”
Patton moved forwards smiling, though it was a strained smile. “Hi, are you someone that can arrange for Roman’s rescue? That cliff looked really dangerous to climb and-”
“And the driver of the commuter train said there was already a rescue team notified and on route.” Maxim cut off, trying to avoid any second teams being sent out when they weren’t needed. “Sorry, Penny. No 765 F is very concerned for No 765 G.”
“It’s fine. We’re all concerned to hear anyone attempting that slope, but I’m sure everything will be resolved.” She assured them, glancing over as Dallergut and Weather approached, learnt to keep an eye out for the staff members coming over.
Dallergut was smiling at Patton, “Looks like we’re a step closer to no 765’s issues being resolved. Vigo and 765 A are fairly certain they’ve got the solution once every 765 is gathered together.”
“Except we’re likely waiting for a rescue team to bring back 765 G.” Maxim responded, gesturing to Patton, “He’s certain that the man scaling Dizzying Downhill is Roman which according to this would make him no 765 G.”
“Ah.” Dallergut paused, looking between the customer and Penny before Weather made a noise of complaint.
Moving to be stood behind the counter with Penny, she took the phone, calling the rescue central to request that, if the person on the Dizzying Downhill is a sleeping customer they are brought to Dallergut’s Dream Department Store as soon as possible.
After this was done, Dallergut was quick to lead no 765 F off to wherever the other Customer no 765’s were being accommodated.
Maxim stared after them hesitantly, before offering an uncertain smile to Penny. “Perhaps you’d like to come over after your shift to tell me how that situation ends?”
“I will do. Thank you Maxim, for all the help you’ve given this evening.” She agrees cheerfully.
Both wonder if there a chance Dallergut or the customer could offer some reward for everything he’d done but remain silent about it.
~
That evening, Penny brings Maxim a dream recently released by Doje and the information that after becoming one customer, instead of seven, once more, customer 765 had purchased one of his dreams, saying he hoped it was something that would put Logan off from experimenting with Sleep for a good long while.
Maxim was sure that everyone involved in the night’s events felt the same.

Ending Note: For anyone who'll wonder about the order the sides get letters: Remy is A cause he's the one who is meant to go to Dallergut's. Logan B because he returns to the store after finding his way elsewhere. Remus C cause that's when Remy found him and Janus D because he tried getting to other areas on the train a few more times and methods than Logan did but returned to the store after failing enough times. Virgil, Patton and Roman are explained in when they reach Dallergut's in the story
Not sure why it's a new trend among fic readers to assume if the fic has not been posted within the week it's inappropriate to comment on it, like the fic has to be hot out of the oven to give feedback for.
I got a comment on a fic that is less than a year old and it was mostly an apology for being a comment on an "old fic" and how late they were in commenting.
Just comment on the fic. Doesn't matter how old it is.
I have finished the main design of all the rooms today. Virgil's joins the rest in waiting their backgrounds, ignoring Remy who decided on no background only sky and Logan's which has already got the background started on it.
Hope you like where they've ended up and can tell whose is whose
slowburn or love at first sight // fake dating or secret dating (it's funny and I like the "am I still faking? are you still faking?" of it. being confused about feelings is very relatable) // enemies to lovers or best friends to lovers // there’s only one bed or long-distance correspondence // hurt/comfort or amnesia // fantasy au or modern au // mutual pining or domestic bliss // smut or fluff (basing this completely on what I'd rather read if it was tagged as without plot) // canon-compliant or fix-it (it depends on the canon! both are so good, I refuse to make a choice when it's removed from any context) // reincarnation or character death // one-shot or multi-chapter // kid fic or road trip fic // arranged marriage or accidental marriage // high-school romance or middle-age romance // time travel or isolated together (time loops are a form of time travel and that's one of my favourite tropes ever) // neighbours or roommates // sci-fi au or magic au // body swap or genderbent (I will go out of my way to avoid both, but they can be done well. the identity crisis/realisation and/or new understanding of a person can be really juicy, but it's rarely that the tropes actually feel good to read in my experience) // angst or crack (crack treated seriously can be really good tho) // apocalyptic or mundane
tagging @anxiouslyfred @ajsvthefourth and anyone else who wants to do it
slowburn or love at first sight (or at least chemistry at first sight? mostly cause I like soulmate aus and people who can't help to argue and pay attention to each other from the start)
fake dating or secret dating (secret third thing, accidental dating, the characters are so close they don't realise everyone is sure they're dating.)
enemies to lovers or best friends to lovers
there’s only one bed or long-distance correspondence (give me the letters and messages!)
hurt/comfort or amnesia
fantasy au or modern au
mutual pining or domestic bliss (whichever has less romance focus which is usually domestic tbh)
smut or fluff
canon-compliant or fix-it (is there fixed rules for Sasi canon? The sides change pretty often so I'd argue not even the characters are fixed in how canon shows them)
reincarnation or character death (I think the only reincarnation ones I've seen that don't go all in on romance bleh were Merlin like a decade or more ago, and I'm not here for that level of romance)
one-shot or multi-chapter (I write mostly one-shots and read mostly one-shots cause I prefer to read books if it's going to take a while and meet some completely new characters and worlds)
kid fic or road trip fic (neither, both can be done well and interesting, but most fandoms have set views on parenting that don't fit every character and make them dull, and road trip stories are more fun if there's familiarity with what's going on)
arranged marriage or accidental marriage
high-school romance or middle-age romance
time travel or isolated together
neighbours or roommates
sci-fi au or magic au (No putting my Split Fiction girls against each other again! I'll take both or none at all thanks. But I tend to find magic aus more often so I guess there's that bias. must look for some sci fi aus or think them up at some point.)
body swap or genderbent (some bodyswaps can be funny but all the genderbent I see is better done with other tropes or trans hcs that even give it more to explore in the story.)
angst or crack (Give me the madness but give it some seriousness or I will check out)
apocalyptic or mundane
my mind is blank of anyone I might tag, so whomever wants to do the game, please do
After listening to the song again, Thomas's break up before releasing 'The Things We Used to Share' was when Remy fell out with him. Remy just really liked his ex, you know, and is hoping Thomas will agree to get him back if Remy finds him at the club or somewhere around town
Knowing how it was for me, asking questions in church, I don't think it can just be a Remus & Roman split that happened. I think at least partially, some of Remus is made up of Logic, of the bits ofReasoning that made Thomas question religion.
Clearly with how Logan is now, he got back to questioning them again, either by developing his sciencific reasoning more and having a new way to question or by that part being absorbed back into Logic over time, but I am fairly sure that for some of Thomas's childhood Thomas rejected the parts of him that challenged and questioned Christianity and some of that is still in Remus.
I've decided Logan, Patton, Roman and Janus's cross stitches are finished pending backgrounds.
I think I've got patterns drawn out and mental plans to finish Remus, Remy and Virgil's cross stitches.
I've also got both a kinda house plan for how their rooms make a house now as well as a bit of a story over how the dark sides cross stitches connect.
So of course my brain is now asking about the chairs, what about the chairs.
I do not care about putting a story behind the chairs that 2 cross stitches have. I'm more interested in getting brain to focus on sewing the patterns.
There's another song from 'Kiss of The Spider Woman' that I want to write a songfic focused on Roman from, the only reason I can't is like one of the only colours mentioned is not being caught dead in something red.
Which sides do you think would look best with long hair? :>
Virgil and Janus are my immediate answers.
Let Janus turn their hair into another way to transform themself and that's easier with long hair unless you're using wigs.
Virgil would just enjoy having something to hide behind and he'd rock the look if he ever bothered to style it too.
Remus would not take care of his hair. If he managed to grow it any length something would get tangled and whoever noticed would be shaving it off again to avoid anything else getting stuck. assuming they'd managed to pin Remus down that is.
While Roman would look good with long hair, it would only last long enough to perform rapunzel somehow, and maybe a photoshoot horseriding so his hair can flow majestically behind him. The haircut at the end would start how Mulan's did.
Summary: Roman helps Virgil and Thomas through a panic attack with a half-remembered song.
Author's note: given I don't think 'Kiss of a Spider Woman' has done many tours (the one I saw is the first since it's original UK run in the 90's) I doubt Thomas would have heard the music, so even though I had the lyrics up and the song able to put on repeat while writing this. I don't let Roman have that knowledge. But seriously, if you listen to any song from that musical, listen to 'Where You Are' It's so good.
~
Roman stared at Thomas and Virgil in concern. He knew he needed to help them, but this was a bad situation. The panic and fears were justified and he wasn’t going to deny it.
Still, curling into a ball and hyperventilating now there was a while to wait before they could next take action was only going to exhaust Thomas.
“Come on, you two, dwelling and trying to breathe isn’t working.” He knelt in front of them, thinking over how creativity might help when a song came to mind. “You’ve heard the song before, Thomas. So you’re thinking we’ve gone to hell in a handbasket and this room we dwell in is surely no paradise, but there’s a tune you’ve heard before it only once or twice, and it holds this sage advice.”
As Roman spoke, he noticed Thomas and Virgil had focused on him but made no attempt to argue so he thought it okay to switch to singing from paraphrasing,
“You’ve got to learn how not to be where you’ve been.”
“Easy, just don’t go there again.” Virgil quipped, his brow furrowed.
“You’ve got to learn how not to see what you’ve seen.”
Thomas shrugged and closed his eyes, “Won’t see anything like this but stuff will still happen.
“So why not lie beside me on the movie screen?”
Virgil groaned, “This isn’t the time for your ambitions Princey!”
Roman gave him a hurt look at that. He was trying to help, even if he wasn’t remembering the song perfectly, but they weren’t getting it.
“And if you find that you land in jail
A little fantasy will prevail!
It’s as simple as ABC!”
Understanding started to dawn on Thomas now, “You think we should imagine somewhere better, right? And I was too worked up for you to do that without this distraction attempt?”
“Come up here. Play with me. Play with me!”
Roman reached to get Thomas up with that line, grinning when Virgil stood as well, both of them taking his hands.
“So turn off the lights and turn on your mind
And I promise you, you will find,
You will like my plan, my sweetest fan,”
Roman squeezed Virgil’s hand with an encouraging smile.
“My Leading man!”
He nudged Thomas now, happy when he lifted their hands to spin around.
“Anywhere you are!”
Together they laughed, dancing a little more to make the ending a bit greater. For a song Roman hadn’t quite remembered, the point it made had helped enough to calm and help them through.
