Why is peeves, arguably one of the best characters in the books, not utilized at ALL in the movies?  Who thought this was a good idea?  What was that thought process like? “Oh, this awesome character that provides a sense of randomness, intrigue and comic relief? Fun fact: Peeves was going to be in the films but after Rik Mayall was cast for the part he kept making the child actors laugh whilst delivering his lines.

The fact that nobody could keep a straight face whilst he was acting combined with the fact that Director Chris Columbus didn't like how the the poltergeist looked whilst the film was being edited led to him being cut out.
