Project 4 Artist Statement

I took me a long time to come up with an idea for this project, and I still don’t know if I did it right. The idea was to be like a human doll and have my sister dress me. This is actually something I’m not new to doing. I was a model for 6 years, mostly high fashion runway and print. The industry is tough, and I often found myself feeling like a doll. It’s like I wasn’t even a real person. For fashion shows sometimes I was put into ridiculous outfits. I felt like I was always dressed to look like someone else, and I never felt like me. As for the project, I just tried to keep it as simple as possible. There’s no meaning to the outfit, I chose what I did because it was easy to put on for my sister.

I’m not sure what movies or shows these are from but I love how dark and mysterious these are. The color scheme and the movements just really make them creepy but comporting at the same time.

Fandom - The Loop

The internet is a connective device for those of us who love creative content. I chose one of my fandoms - The Avatar the last airbender and Legend of Korra Universe to make my gifs from. Fandom is a way to connect with others who share in your love of vampires, or crime nerds. The anime community and the animation community are big parts of my life, so I decided to share them with you!

Avatar shares cultural implications, hints at Buddhism and spirituality, magic and healing, human emotion, and great great friendship. These shows are very well done and have amass a big following.

Oh my gosh! I LOVE that you chose ATLA and LOK. They are my favorite shows< and have been since avatar first came out! I actually do cosplay and mainly do Korra and other characters from the universe. I like the gifs you made too. The Ember Island Players is such a fun episode, I die laughing every time at tophs character.

I really like how you hand made each one! I wish I would have thought about that, since I don't have photoshop at home. I like how you stuck with the same theme of nature. This one is my fave because I like the way the vines take up the whole space and really swarm.

Happily Ever After

I’ve always liked romantic movies, but the ones that always stuck out in my mind were the ones where the couples never stayed together. I liked the overall feeling of reality that comes from these ruminations on former love so I focused every gif on a scene from a movie where the main romantic protagonists do not get their happy ending. Whether the motivation of continuing life or never forgetting the happiness even if it’s painful, I feel these all encompass what it really means the tragedy and optimism behind love. I focused on moments of genuine love to highlight the tragedy of their ends.

It’s very sad but beautiful to pick movies where they don't live happily ever after. It really makes you appreciate the gif as a small little moment where everything was perfect, but you still know it doesn't work out. The Carl and Elly one has to be my favorite though, just because we get so little of Elly in the movie so it makes it even more perfect.

the love i have for this show cannot be measured. incidentally there 10 episodes, so i decided to take my favorite visual moments from each episode and turn them into gifs! seriously ya'll...if you have never seen this show and have an hour to kill..give it a chance--it is beautiful in so many ways!

I have never seen the show but from the look of these, it seems really interesting i’ll have to look it up. I enjoy the color pallet and how all the gifs look good as a collection. I also think you have the right about of movements in all of them, not too much, but not too little.

I really like the idea of making intimacy your theme, and you captured it well. I appreciate how you chose straight and gay couples. It makes the collection as a whole more inviting to more viewers.

I haven't seen all of these, but the way you captured each one makes me want to watch them all. Great bright colors in all of them. I think the Ponyo one is my favorite, very fun!

You said that your inspiration was the cosmos and space, and you did capture them in a way that it beautiful. This one doesn't have the cosmos or outer space but its my favorite because I'm a hugeHarry Potter fan!
