Lately I've been thinking a lot about fanfiction and the fandom, more specifically about why I write fanfiction and how I interact with the community. I also had to write a dissertation for my Social Studies class. So procrastinating disaster that I am, I instead wrote this. It is very superficial and not at all in dept, I glossed over a lot of things and didn't even mention others, but again, this is not an actual work so who cares.

The voice was smooth and deep. It rang with curiosity and a hint of malice, travelling around the empty space, louder and clearer than the footsteps that had come before it. The altar in front of them stood tall and proud, white marble gleaming in the darkness, pure and unblemished, free of all sin.

Above it the crucified Christ made of wood stared down at them in silent judgement. The painted blood that ran down its face looked startlingly real in the gloom.

Andrés de Fonollosa wasn’t born, he was created. Andrés Marquina was born, but stopped existing when Andrés decided to sever this tie to his family - present or past - so he could protect Sergio, and enable their heist.

No personal relationships, Sergio had said - such crap. They were brothers. The only personal relationship stronger than their brotherly love was their love for the plan - so “no personal relationships” was an idea doomed to fail before it was even uttered aloud.

Andrés wasn’t nostalgic about the name Marquina. He didn’t need a name to know who he was; it was all in his blood. And this new name? He afforded it even less respect. His own son didn’t take his last name - either his real one, or one of the fake ones. Neither one of his wives who took his name were named Marquina; Andrés didn’t care about a name. It was deeper than that.
