Brothers,   

    Our November meeting is today at 2pm, St Pius X Catholic Church. Following the meeting, we will be visiting the resting places of fallen AOH members at Ft. Sam. (please bring something for a toast). There is much to discuss and review. Among those the elections of the 2016 Board.    On that note, last months meeting was my last meeting as Columkille Division 1 president. Due to an exam I will not be able to make today's meeting and my finals fall on the next meeting date, I will be out of town and on campus finishing up this semester. It has been a great honor to be President of this division for the last few years and Vice President for the few years before that. My growing family, return to school and commitment to the local GAA consume a large amount of time, that does not leave much do be divided at the end of the day. I hope that I have added to the culture of this division, helped in the organization and modernization of our roles and practices. I believe I leave the leadership of our division in good financial standing, with a strong and active membership . I look forward to supporting the future AOH board as a loyal, rank and file member. Ceili for a Cause

Who's going to the Celie for a Cause this Friday? Sound off. Supporting Irish nuns who've dedicated their life to God, and the people of Africa, all you can eat bbq and drinks, what else could you ask for on a Friday night? Live Irish music and dancing. Come out this evening when the temperatures cool down to a chilly 99F and support the San Antonio Gaelic Athletics Club . They are staging the first ever "Road to Avoca" Pub League Championship games. The Headwaters at UIW will be hosting the games on the upper pitch (labeled practice pitch in the picture) starting at 6pm (ish). Two Gaelic Football games for the price of none. Bring your wife and girlfriends (one or the other not both) and the family. A favorite beverage for yourself or sharing and a bit of shade if you have it. SAGAC Abu!

Remembering Jim Delaney, a pioneer of peace

Texas millionaire who had a dream and a vision to bring peace to Northern Ireland.

A great article on Irish-American hero, Jim Delaney. Not only was Jim a founding member of many Irish organizations in Texas he was the past president and founding member of AOH Columkille Division 1 San Antonio. He was larger than life and leaves behind mighty big boots to fill.

King William Neighborhood Fair Parade.

April 25, 2015 the AOH will march in the annual King William Fair Parade.  Line-up may start as early as 7:30 a.m. The Parade kicks off at 9:00 a.m. Click here for Parade Route. Fish & Chips @ SA Highland Games.

One of our biggest fundraisers and most interesting event of the year is close at hand. The San Antonio Highland Games. This year we are serving fish and chips only. So get ready for some superficial battle scars and a great time with your AOH brothers and their families. We are in need of people to help out Saturday morning, and still have space for plenty on Sunday as well. A truck to help set up Friday and strike on Sunday would be incredibly helpful also. At this time we only have Seven (7) volunteers. That's a lot of work for 7 guys, who all would also like time with their families at this event. We all are in this order for friendship and charity, this weekend brings those two together. It was a great day in Austin, Texas as Ireland and Texas strengthen centuries old ties with the opening of the Consulate General of Ireland. Mr Adrian Farrell, Consul General hosted AOH San Antonio member Adrian Brett,  President of AOH Austin, Mike Joyce, and President of San Antonio Division 1 Jimmy O’Halligan and Irish business and community leaders from around Texas. As we entered the building in the lobby guest had a surprise treat with the Inishfree dancers giving a performance. 

Taoiseach Enda Kenny was the key speaker, he talked briefly about the historical and cultural connections between the two lands and his hopes for more business and economic ties as well. 

Superstar Stephanie Roche newly signed Houston Dash player was on hand mingling with the star footballers of San Antonio GAC.

Our namesake is often thought a misspelling of St. Columbkille but in fact we are named in honor of Sister Columkille Colbert, CCVI 1900-1939, who was the second president of Incarnate Word College (now University of the Incarnate Word).  Let perpetual light shine upon her.
