A question, and I hope there are some replies…for those of you who still follow Torchwood and read TW fanfiction, do you ever stop and think to yourself, “Wow, I’d really like to read a story someday about this!”
I’m not fishing for prompts - believe me, I have so much in my TW folder I could write for another six months! I’m curious if there are still stories out there to be told, things other people imagine happening to this team that you haven’t seen yet. Because like I said - not only do I have all sorts of things started, but I still have ideas that come to me, often inspired by other things, often clear out of the blue. And yet there are almost 13,000 Torchwood fics on AO3!
It’s amazing, isn’t it, how fanfiction can explore so much more than the original stories can. Even when you keep it relatively real, or <gasp> stick to canon, there are still so many things I want to see Jack and Ianto–as well as Tosh, Owen, and Gwen–still do, still see, still fight. So many stories!
Again, I don’t want your ideas, although it might be fun to share the really, really crazy ones one day. But the second part of my question is…when do the stories end? Star Trek debuted in 1966 and fans are still writing fanfiction about Kirk and Spock! When will we stop reading and writing about Jack and Ianto? When shouldO we move on? Do we have to move on, or can they live forever in our minds, hearts, and laptops? Yet if the story ends, and the characters move on, how long can fans keep living in the past? Or is one of the points of fanfiction to keep the past alive?
