Peter Capaldi paid tribute to his departing Doctor Who companion Jenna Coleman by claiming she stops him from occasionally coasting as the time lord. Capaldi and Coleman appeared at this weekend's Doctor Who Festival in London and he told fans about how he would miss Coleman. Her character Clara Oswald is leaving the show before the Christmas special after three years in the Tardis. “We share gossip and laughs,” he said as he talked about an actress “who is so good”. “Jenna will constantly surprise me,” Capaldi continued.

Well, we share gossip, and laughs. I think I’m gonna miss having an actress who’s so good, as Jenna, who constantly surprises me. And sometimes I’ll be rather lazy and think, “oh I can just go in and say this in a Doctor Who-ish way and it’ll sort of work out.” And then Jenna will deliver some dazzling kind of truthful perfomance and I’ll have to go “oh, I better work a bit harder”, and try and at least match her.
