The Countdown In The Opening Ceremony
Syndra’s rage! by ComaBlast
A farewell to LoL
Dear Riot,
I loved your game. I loved the lore and the characters and the ability to challenge yourself. I’ve only been playing for less than two years, and League was my very first PC game - much less my very first game where I could play with other people. But, after two years, I can’t do it anymore.
I can’t see people being toxic and it’s the norm. I don’t even mean people being toxic to me, but to others. I’ve seen terrible things being said, and no one does anything about it. My mother raised my sister and I to not only be respectful and decent, but to also stand up against someone who isn’t. The report system you have in place does not work, for one simple reason.
You are too worried about how people will look at you for punishing players. No one wants you to punish players, but instead protect them. Protect your players that are being bullied, who are being trolled and hurt and called terrible names and that their parents made a mistake.
I had never been exposed to this generation’s acceptance of this way of thinking. One time, my sister was playing with me and we had an Amumu jg. He then went up to my sister’s Leona and kept spamming his laugh. We were confused until he said, “Haha I’m eating your pussy.” This made my sister incredibly uncomfortable, since we are both rape victims. She said “pls stop, that’s making me uncomfortable.” She didn’t even say she was gonna report him, just that he would stop. He didn’t, and instead started to int in our lane. We asked for our team to report, but all we got was “Well, it’s your fault for saying something.”
We reported, and nothing happened. He played games for two weeks, according to his profile, and my sister ended up getting so stressed that this could happen again, she stopped playing. I was heartbroken, and wrote to your support. We went through three different people before someone would take us seriously.
That one experience pretty much sums up how people are. I don’t know why it is acceptable to tell people the things they do, or why you find it acceptable.
League was my window to the outside world, since I stay home to take care of my mother. I don’t go out with friends, I don’t go on trips, I stay here 24/7 because my mother needs me. But, I need to shut that window. I can’t see the world people have created now. There is no consequences for people over a computer screen, and I truly believe that it’s spreading to our actual reality. Everyone is scared to stand up against bullies, and are okay with watching others getting hurt as long as it isn’t them.
Muting people doesn’t do anything. It’s the same as watching a bully push someone into the lockers and ignoring it. It’s the same as watching someone dragging another against their will, and doing nothing. I’m not saying people need to police the game, because that shouldn’t be their job. It’s your job. You are the avenue for this to go on, and you refuse to protect players.
I will miss League. My sister bought me special skins after my surgery. I had a friend buy me a skin, and they are no longer here with us. These skins are special, but they’re tied to a game that I believe is choosing toxic people over innocent ones. Every conversation I’ve had with support over issues have done one thing - blame the victim.
I wrote in after one game where a duo was following our jg and taking all his camps and not allowing him to do anything. For no reason, no one had said anything to them for them to do this. Our jg apologized profusely to the other player and me. He shouldn’t have to, it wasn’t his fault. I really believe he blamed himself for the actions of two people who wanted to just be mean for the sake of being mean. Your support pretty much said, “What do you want me to do? Mute them and get over it.” No amount of syrupy sweet words masked their indifference towards this. And this it not the first time.
I’m not asking for mountains or grand gestures. All I wish is that people had the balls and decency to care. I am not just speaking about Riot, but to the players as well. Maybe one day, this epidemic of indifference and coldness towards your fellow man will go away. Maybe one day, but at this rate I do highly doubt it.
Good bye, League of Legends. You have taught me many things, and I had fun with you. But I can’t see the degeneration of decency anymore. I wish you well.
I kinda draw Syndra? She’s like my queen.
