i am trying to put as much effort as i can into posting things about the black lives matter movement but i just had to quickly comment on something else.
in kerala, a pregnant elephant was killed when it ate a pineapple filled with firecrackers. apparently the pineapples are meant to ward off wild boars. i believe the full details still are still unknown currently, so these facts are all that are known for now. this event caused outrage around india. and yes, this was terrible! whether or not it was intentional, these forms of animal cruelty are awful.
what i am NOT okay with is the sudden attacks on the people of kerala and the government. and ESPECIALLY attacks on muslims. a bjp leader has claimedย malappuram is the most violent district in the entire country. firstly, i am not exactly sure how she came to this conclusion. but moreover the event didnโt even HAPPEN IN MALAPPURAM. it happened in palakkad district. interestingly, malappuram is a district with a large muslim majority. there are others blaming the events on muslims, saying muslims killed the elephant because the elephant is sacred for hindus. there are countless other tweets sayingย โsee what happens when communists are in chargeโ, while being silent on all the other terrible stuff that happens in other areas of india where other parties are in charge.ย
i am not saying that kerala is perfect and i hope that nobody will interpret this as me trying to patriotically defend my state. because i am not and kerala isnโt perfect. but i am sick and tired of BJP officials and supporters constantly twisting the narrative, not looking at facts, misinforming the public, ignoring other tragedies in BJP-led states, and CONSISTENTLY furthering their own agenda by trying to blame things on muslims.
