Not really. It’s kind of a fantasy setting, but I guess the technology would be based off contemporary times in our world, if not a bit more advanced.

Intro Post

There is a kingdom named Zera. It has been around for decades and only recently has it’s culture changed.

As society advances into the future, the arts start to become more prevalent, especially music. Instead of being a pastime, music has become a way of living for many people. An entire hierarchy has been built off of music. One of the greatest divides in this new culture is vocal versus instrumental music. People from the two sides despise each other, and will always try to find ways to make sure that their side is the most recognized and loved. Duels happened all across the land, where two musicians will face off in a battle of talent. People become more and more aggressive towards the opposing sides and eventually, the Muses have to step in to intervene.

The Muses are one of the most important roles you could have. Each Muse represents a form of music, aka an instrument or vocal range (sop, alto, etc). Together they make sure the land doesn't go into chaos.

Because of how much music plays an effect on the culture, the more talented people are often times more wealthy and well-liked. So people developed a black market where things like voice modifiers or enhancers are sold, as well as really high-quality instruments for strange prices.

A Little More On The Roles And Terminology

The Roles are basically your muses level in society. Current Roles:

Basic Musician: A normal everyday person who plays music. 

Duelist: A Musician who does duels for a living. Usually very opinionated about the vocal vs instrumental debate.

Teachers/Mentors: Musicians who teach younger musicians and guide them while they learn how to play/sing. Teaching styles may vary. 

Performers: Professional musicians who play only to perform. Usually, they don't care about politics whatsoever. Very invested in the music. 

Composers: Self Explanatory.

Builders: Those who build instruments. Shadier builders will make voice modifiers/enhancers to sell on the black market.

Dealers: They deal on the black market, selling modifiers, enhancers, rare instruments, among other things.

Muses: Rulers and Peacemakers. Masters of their respective instruments/genres. Decision makers. Together they form a council.

Terminology

As of right now, there are only a few terms you need to know.

Duels: Music fights that started out as ways to challenge the opposite side, but slowly turned into a form of entertainment. They are often staged, but genuine duels do still exist.

Sides / Opposite Side: When I refer to the  ‘opposite side’, I’m referring to the political dispute that is at large in the country of Vocal vs Instrumental music. It is very personal for a lot of citizens so most people will get very heated about it.

Specialization: Which instrument you play/ which genre music you sing. Your area of expertise.
