A majestic pose!!
Hey, I know you probably get this all the time, but I still feel like asking a pigeon owner themself is the best course of action. Do you recommend pigeons as pets? I hope to get maybe one or two this summer. I've still got lots of research and prepping to do, but I wanted to know your opinion, as well as anything else I should look out for?
Im sorry if this is super late!!! My notifactions have been off!!! I definetley recommend them as pets!!! They are super social and intellegent and also very quiet compared to other common pet birds. They are very loyal and will have a soecial close bond to the person who spends the most time with them.
If you get one, be sure you are able to take them out of their cage and hang out with them for at least an hour a day. I try to keep Corny out and about the majority of the time I am home and awake. Because they are so social it wouldnāt be nice to have them living all alone all the time. Sl if you dont think you can spend as much time with them, iād recommend getting a pair.
And make sure you get a large dog crate to house them in, or their own room to roam in when youāre not around. Since they are pretty big they need alot of room. Especially if youāre planning on getting a racing homer (like cornelius), they are high energy! There are many other lower energy or smaller breeds of pigeons too tho! Im just not familair woth those. Also keep in mind that I raised Corny and he is very closely bonded to me because of that. So when/if you get your bird, dont be discouraged if they are a little shy around you at first (since I assume you will be getting an adult or fully weaned young one)! They will warm up to you with time :)
Definetly research the type of breed you think might fit your lifestyle and desires best. Hope this helps and sorry if its super later! Let me know if you have more questions!!!
I keep calling Cornelius a beautiful boy everytime I look at him
