Google Address Autocomplete API Example
Address autocomplete is the process of suggesting standardized addresses while a user types in an address field. Many of the major address autocomplete providers rely on crowdsourced contributions from untrained volunteers to add residential and business addresses. This can lead to inconsistent data and lower accuracy versus other more rigorously validated databases.
Another issue is that these tools often do not verify that the addresses they suggest are in a standardized format. This can be an issue when you are shipping goods or providing services to customers that have a unique address format. A PO Box is a good example. There are dozens of different ways that a PO Box can be written and the data from most address autocomplete tools does not verify whether or not the PO Box is in a standardized format.
The simplest and most effective solution is to use an API that returns well-formatted addresses that include separate address components such as street, house number, postcode (or zipcode), city, state and country as well as latitude and longitude coordinates. The Smarty US Autocomplete Pro API does this and more. It also has a geolocation feature that can serve suggestions based on the actual location of the user. This saves time and reduces the chance of making errors when entering an address.
To enable this functionality for your Gravity Forms, generate a Google API key, then visit the Perks settings in the Address field and check āGoogle Places Autocompleteā. You can also restrict countries searched as well as filter results by business or residential addresses.
