leaving it at that :)
“I will have an undergraduate class, let’s say a young white male student, politically-correct, who will say: “I am only a bourgeois white male, I can’t speak.” … I say to them: “Why not develop a certain degree of rage against the history that has written such an abject script for you that you are silenced?” Then you begin to investigate what it is that silences you, rather than take this very determinist position-since my skin colour is this, since my sex is this, I cannot speak… From this position, then, I say you will of course not speak in the same way about the Third World material, but if you make it your task not only to learn what is going on there through language, through specific programmes of study, but also at the same time through a historical critique of your position as the investigating person, then you will have earned the right to criticize, you be heard. When you take the position of not doing your homework- “I will not criticize because of my accident of birth, the historical accident” - that is the much more pernicious position.”

stage production of the antigone which consists of just the agon between kreon and antigone performed thrice, with woke and alt right language switched between the characters from one to the other, and the third rendered as alienatingly greekish as possible
CR: and even so you broke the law? ANT: yes, since that law was not inspired by God, and since any law that doesn't uphold faith or guarantees peace in the afterlife is illegal. and i don't recognize the authority of a godless degenerate who denies God and the traditional values given by God.
vs.
CR: and even so you committed this crime? ANT: yes, because that law was not valid, and does not uphold justice for all which is an unalienable right. and i don't think one human being has the right to override the basic human rights of others, since we are all equal under the law.
vs.
CR: and still you were so bold as to overstep the norm? ANT: for not from Zeus was this decree to me. and not of that kind from Justice and the gods below are the laws established for men. and not did i think your decree had such strength, that someone death-doomed can override the unwritten and unfailing norms of gods.

tired guy: oh no! How will me and my band of weirdos ever successfully create an institution that will change the city for the better now! If only a hot autistic woman could save us with her extremely relevant and specific special interest!!!

Rothko / On Fear by Ollie Cowley
amir khusrow (1253–1325 CE)
This is back on my dash! And listen, I love to see Amir Khusrau getting appreciation, but this translation ignores a lot. The original rhymes! And scans! And does playful things with register! And conveys a tone of affectionate banter between the two speakers, not least because it has them both addressing each other as sakhi (translated above as “girl”) in the last two lines. I think taking some liberties with line order is worth it to preserve more of the rest—and I think there’s a better translation of sakhi. And so:
He only visits once a year, I splurge big on him when he’s here, His kisses make my tastebuds tango. Who, bitch, your man? Nah, bitch, a mango.
