okay,      kids   time   to   talk   about   the   incorporation   of   bible   canon   into   my   portrayal   of   az .      today   we’ll   talk   about   the   trauma   az   suffered   before   and   during   his   fall,      specifically   this   bit :  

to   make   the   story   short,      it   happened,      they   kinda   left   him   there   and   az   now   has   debilitating   claustrophobia   on   his   hands .      yay .      this   shows   in   multiple   ways,      the   very   obvious   ones   being   az   staying   out   of   enclosed   dark   spaces,      staying   away   from   crowds   and   not   letting   himself   be   blindfolded   or   handcuffed   no   matter   how   innocent         (         or   not         )         the   intention . the   more   subtle   signs   are   in   his   everyday   behaviour   such   as   taking   the   stairs,      keeping   the   library   very   brightly   lit         (         which   leads   to   more   humans   seeing   his   goatly   eyes         ),      opening   every   window   available   and   keeping   his   apartment   minimalistic   /   the   library   very   neat   and   open   floorplan .         (         driving   stupidly   fast   and   reckless   so   he   can   get   out   of   the   car   quicker .         )

however,      az   is   prone   to   experiencing   the   very   earthly   symptoms   of   excessive   sweating,      fear   &&    confusion,      dizziness   and   a   tightness   in   his   chest   that   can   occasionally   feel   like   a   choking   sensation,      all   of   which   leads   to   him   panicking   and   often   times   miracling   his   way   out   of   the   situation         (         or   conducting   very   unwanted   miracles   such   as   crashing   the   mobile   network,      killing   the   power   in   the   entire   building   /   block   and   more   fun   plague   like   things .         )

do   you   ever   think   about   how   az   owning   a   library   as   opposed   to   az.iraphale’s   lovely   bookstore         (         don’t   fool   yourself   they’re   both   for   storage         )         is   very   symbolic   for   azazel   giving   out   knowledge   to   humans         (         the   very   same   thing   that   got   him   kicked   out   heaven         )         but   also   having   the   ability,      read   control,      to   metaphorically   take   it   all   back   again ?

az    in    hell    has    goat-esque    features    like    hooves    and    four    curled    horns    but    on    earth    it    thankfully    all    stays    hidden    save    for    his    eyes,        which    have    unnaturally    dark    irises    and    in    certain    light    one    can    see    the    horizontal    pupil .

i   feel   like   i   need   to   elaborate :      when   i   say   az   has   unnaturally   dark   irises,      i   mean   they   seem   to   absorb   all   light   into   them   and   when   i   say       ❛      in   certain   light       ❜      i   mean   very   bright   places   or   someone   shines   a   light   directly   into   his   eyes .      both   heaven   and   his   library   are   bright   enough   to   show   az’   pupils .

he   who   just   appears        -        driven   by   the   need   to   know   more,      who   comes   to   collect   knowledge   and   keep   it   for   himself        -        he   sits   with   his   hands   tied   behind   his   back   and   waits   in   silence .      oh   the   little   humans   don’t   suspect   a   thing,      they   will   never   understand   the   creature   that   let   them   tie   him   to   a   chair   but   of   course,      azazel   isn’t   almighty .      no,      no,      a   hit   to   the   head   and   a   sturdy   rope   will   do   the   trick,      just   as   well   as   a   minor   miracle   will   keep   the   knot   loose .      moments   pass   as   he   listens   and   listens   but   how   to   say   that   he   was   amongst   them   on   the   boat   and   just   hid   in   plain   sight ?      how   to   say   that   he   possibly   forgot   to   keep   hiding ?         ❛         you   see,      i   think   this   is   all   a   terrible   mistake ;      eh   a   misunderstanding,      if   you   will .      i   arrived   with   your   people .      really .         ❜
