13. When do they realise they should get together?

For Kaito, it was when he finally got a glimpse of Maki's 'dere' side, such as the way she blushed and stumbled her words after a compliment from him or the way her insults to him were slowly turning more affectionate. Kaito was smitten with Maki the moment he saw her, of course, but it wasn't until he could see with his own two eyes that the feeling may be mutual that he could make a move to take the next step.

For Maki, it was when she finally realized her past wasn't going to catch up to her and the Holy Salvation Society wasn't there anymore to beat her back into submission. Maki had had considerable reservations forming attachments given her past, but once she was sure Kaito wouldn't be hurt because he was near her she was able to follow her heart and kindle a relationship with him.

22. Where does their first kiss happen?

Maki isn't one to initiate physical contact and Kaito has a bit of a flair for the dramatic, so he planned ahead to make the perfect opportunity. He took Maki stargazing to his favorite place with a picnic basket one summer night, and let her soak in the beauty of it all before making the attempt. Kaito became a bit too anxious about making the kiss perfect like in the movies, however, and he froze - that's when Maki rolled her eyes and leaned in to kiss him first.

(They would both agree that it was the best first kiss they could ever wish for.)
