Snapchat & The Video War
Firstly, welcome to Apps Today, a blog in which we blog about apps. Today. Tell all your friends, follow, and share for the best in app news.
Apps are little 'applications' that have the ability to change a life. They can be cool or clunky, smart or sexy, or anything in between. Apps tend to dominate the modern landscape. And there is one form of media that has always dominated the landscape: video.
There is no doubt that recently, apps have been turning to video. If you want to share a video of you stripping naked praying in a Church and being respectful with your friends, family and potential mates, then nowadays you have a whole bar mitzvah of choices. You have the classic and simple Snapchat, the derivative Instagram Video, and the now-comedy platform Vine. But which one deserves the most of our attention? Which one should be like a Natalie Portman nude scene?
For private sharing, I am going with Snapchat over texting and Facebook messaging. The opportunity for deletion is outstanding, eradicating almost all fear of embarrassment. No matter whether it is of a sexual nature, or just you being ridiculous, Snapchat can save you from some serious backfires.
For publishing to followers, my vote distinctly goes to Vine. Although it can be seen as purely a comedy platform, it is so simple yet versatile and such a pleasure to use that it receives the Apps Today stamp of approval. The 7-second video format is sure to inspire a whole new generation of filmmakers too, making our storytelling concise.
The brilliance of video apps cannot be understated. We feel they will be around for years to come. Apps Today - out.
