We finally finished our invitations. It was such a beast of a project - from start to finish - from the first creative brainstorm to the last lick of the envelope. We literally collapsed on his bedroom floor from exhaustion the night we finished. Our hands hurt (his from cutting and mine from tying) and if we had spent one more minute contemplating whether our whole idea was too "out there" we wouldn't have made it.
Our wedding is one big ode to John Steinbeck, my personal literary hero. Thus, when we sat down for our initial brainstorming session, we wanted our invites to model Coralie Bickford-Smith's Penguin Classic series - with a personal touch of course. But how could we do that with paper? It was impossible to achieve, being as though one of the best parts of her series is the feel of the cloth.
Graham was the genius behind the blind letterpress imprint on the cover, we both envisioned the cranes (which you'll see a lot of on May 26th), and I wrote the content. It was perfectly simple, well thought out, and embodies us to a tee. Plus, who can resist those cartoons? We owe a BIG thank you to our friend Ryan for drawing those!
We truly hope you enjoy them!
