My family is watching Return of the King and it’s just so good, like I definitely have my fair share of issues with it (most of it is as a woman being robbed of seeing Eowyn’s full arc and romance with Faramir play out ughhh) but overall it’s honestly the best fantasy film ending I think I’ve ever seen. The themes and character arcs are mostly there and intact...and now after TROS I’m just so SAD watching it, LOTR got it so right and I just don’t understand how TROS just has no idea what it’s like doing and abandons its core tenets...also can we talk about how the LOTR trilogy was all filmed over 2 years and then made into movies? Imagine if the ST had done this from the beginning, at least we would have gotten a consistent storyline and a clear vision. I will be sad about the wasted potential until my dying day.

Here comes another “me ranting about SW discussions with friends IRL that make me want to bang my head against a desk “....I had a Zoom call for my birthday today with some friends and one of my guy friends who knows I hated TROS tried to get me to open up about why I hated it so much (luckily he is pretty respectful and while we don’t see eye to eye I know he’s not malicious about it which is good) but of course once I said how amazing TLJ was he started by saying “but nothing happens in TLJ! They start the movie all hugging and being friends on the ship and they end the same way!” And I was like...did we even watch the same movie?!? I straight up asked him “ok which characters are you talking about?” And he was like “all of them..Poe and Rey and Leia all being friends on the ship” and I was like my dude Poe hadn’t even met Rey and the first scene of him with Leia is her slapping him in the face and demoting him because he wanted glory and disobeyed her orders. That definitely shut him up a bit, and later he did the whole “Luke’s character was ruined” thing which I won’t rehash here because we’ve heard it all before, but like honestly...I swear guys don’t like TLJ because it’s REY’S JOURNEY not Luke’s and they can’t understand this. Also people don’t understand character arcs. That’s why he felt like nothing happened, because so much happened for Rey and the other characters internally...idk I just have to laugh or maybe cry, I’m literally begging people to maybe actually watch the movie before saying patently false statements like that. (End rant)

Today’s my birthday and my little sister surprised me with this cake!!! She knows I’ve been depressed about our boy Ben Solo since December (and she sympathizes too) and she said she specifically put blue icing on instead of red because Ben Solo is back on the light side now (she also apologized for not being able to put Adam’s face on it 😆) It was so sweet 😭❤️
