“Lapsed” (Simin Behbahani, "Homeland, Once More, I'll Build You")

“Lapsed” Project Statement: Indulgently, one relapses into who he thought he was no longer, into poetry, into love. But the time is not right, or perhaps never is, for these things. For selfhood. I wanted to capture the moment, all of its temporal discord and the crisis it afflicts—by recording myself reciting poetry for which we may not be ready, poetry for which there is no time, poetry perhaps of a different temporal order. Meaning is made when the stars align, but they do not stay aligned. This is a political project.

Taken House is a traveling project of urban intervention, where more than 3000 ants in sculpture are displayed on architectural facades and structures to talk about immigration, forced displacement and uprooting, in times of globalization.

In a way, her strangeness, her naïveté, her craving for the other half of her equation was the consequence of an idle imagination. Had she paints, or clay, or knew the discipline of the dance or strings; had she anything to engage her tremendous curiosity and gift for metaphor, she might have exchanged the restlessness and preoccupation with whim for an activity that provided her with all she yearned for.
