Espresso has a special place at April. And in the strive to get the most out of our coffee we roast espresso and espresso for milk different. On top of that we recommend approaching the brewing different as well. Clean espresso should aim for a TDS around 8-8.5 with a 1:2.5 ratio aiming for a buttery mouthfeel and high flavor clarity. Espresso for milk should aim for a TDS around 9.2-9.7 with a 1:2 brew ratio which will keep the flavor clarity but give you the strength necessary to taste the espresso through the milk. (this is only extended as recommendation for the April Coffee Range and you will find individual recipes on the website as well).
A big part of April from the start have been to share as much of the April process as possible. Both online via the video journals and presentations around the world. We are always looking for new opportunities to share our project and hopefully help others to avoid mistakes that we did along the way. Email us at [email protected] if you want us to come and share.
Did you get the opportunity to taste the first round of the washed processed Obata from F.C.J. Volcán Azul in Costa Rica? It's the first time this varietal from that origin is being production roasted since it was planted in 2014. Next round will go out on Tuesday 23 May and after that is till be a two month break. Part of this process is to taste it over several months to see how it holds up. I am already planing for the 2017/18 harvest when production should be up at 15-20 bags.
April is part of a conversation about coffee hosted by @gaggenauofficial. It is a close up at three different aspects of the coffee culture and We are happy to be a part of it. Together with this collaboration we also created an special edition espresso "1693" exclusively for their anniversary. (Link in bio)
Heating up the @loringroasters machine. Production day is on its way. Production batches of the first Obata varietal from Costa Rica, new Kamwangi AA lot (harvested later) and a new version of the "04" espresso.
Preparing the second round of today's quality control session. Will cupping small sessions multiple times rather than one big.
The @the.filter coffee festival and the Czech Brewers Championship in Brno is about to start and we are here. 10:30 We will do a Presentation about our current roasting approach at April and 12:00 we will be on the Filter Brew Bar.
We are getting very excited over the green coffee that is coming in. The flavor vibrancy is high and the roast versions all aim for transparency and functionality.
Available on Tuesday 16 May production. Order now to make sure you get to try it. Wholesale only for the first round and then it will go up on the webshop end of May. The coffee will be sold in steps. 30kg at the time. I want to see how this coffee performs over the year so each run will be very limited. One bag will be opened every second month.
There are only five of these in the world (all at April). A washed processed Obata varietal from Costa Rica. One of the first of its kind. The coffee is farmed at F.C.J. Volcán Azul and part of their micro lot program with focus on sustainable varietals with exceptional cup score. This coffee is 100% leaf rust resistant due to being part Timor. This coffee will exclusively be available for the clients that have supported April from the start. A sustainable coffee for long term collaborations.
Today's production is about to start. Testing new approaches for espresso and fine tuning filter profiles.
Back in Copenhagen after a weekend at the @budapestcoffeefestival. Tasting last week production. There is still room to get in on tomorrow's production. Deadline is at 12:00 today.
Have you had the opportunity to taste the April Capsule Coffee range yet? Order today and your capsules will ship out Tuesday. Choose from a creamy and rich Brazilian coffee from da Torre, a blackberry and juicy Kenyan coffee from Baragwi or a floral and peachy Konga from Ethiopia.
Setting up for some espresso brewing between 10-12:00 today at the @budapestcoffeefestival. Come by for some espresso and coffee talk.
I am working on updating my retail bags. It's been a few months in the making and now my blue prints are sent in for production. I am not going to reveal to much just yet since it will be at least three months until they get launched but they will be 100% recyclable.
April likes to measure as much as possible when it comes to roasting, quality control and brewing. Numbers and reading tools gives you a better understanding on what is going on and even do they are only relevant for your set up it's still very helpful if your looking to become better at what you do. #measuremore
