kokuanten ( 黒闇天, darkness ) is kohaku's zanpakuto, and a bit of an enigma. she is a tall, lean woman with long black hair and golden eyes, said to resemble akemi is terms of facial structure and build. it is also said, however, that her true form is that of an effeminate male, although this form is despised by her, and rarely seen.
her strength lies in her ability to mimic the abilities of other zanpakuto within a mile radius of her by, as she puts it, "borrowing their name". for this ability to work, she ( or kohaku ) has to know the name of the zanpakuto she is copying. her greatest weakness is that she ( or kohaku ) has no training with these specific abilities, and so what makes her a jack of all trades, similarly makes her a master of none ( yet sometimes better than a master of one, as they say ).
her bankai, yamiten devi ( やみ天, darkness heaven devi ) appears to have nothing to do with this ability, as it summons her forth to fight alongside kohaku. she does, however, possess an ability to shapeshift, a nod to her shikai's ability. regardless of what form she takes, she maintains the general powers of a soul reaper, including her own form of ' kido ' . if gravely injured, she will shift to her weapon form - that of a spear - and return to kohaku.
in terms of personality, she can be considered an ideal noblewoman, although not entirely stable, similarly to her master. her stability seems to fluctuate with his; if his mental health declines, so does hers, and even vice versa. above all, she cannot be trusted, as much of what she says is lies. perhaps the only one she will not lie to is tatsu's zanpakuto. she has an advantage against zanpakuto with a light-afiinity.
tenryū ( 天竜, heavenly dragon ) takes the form of a young, well-built man with shoulder length black hair and golden eyes. he is noted for having a dragon's senses, such as heightened smell. though not usually an issue, he appears to get motion and sea sick, and can only travel by foot or air.
his personality is very similar to his master's, only with more of a sense of humor, albeit somewhat dry. overall, he is a very serious individual, but will lighten the mood if he sees fit. he holds tatsu in very high regard, and would do anything to protect her.
true to his name, he sometimes admits an ethereal glow, particularly when using his bankai, apusara ( アプサラ, apsara ). he is a master at the spear, but is capable of using swords as well. the easiest way to defeat him would be to overload his senses, making a quick victory highly plausible. he has an advantage over zanpakuto with a dark-attribute. ( the exception to this appears to be kohaku's zanpakuto, who he is evenly matched with. )
HER HEART WAS A DRAGON’S HEART.
@ the entire bleach rpc: i’m so sorry
the eldest of the hakuryuu clan, and head of the clan by birthright, kohaku was never spoiled as a child, but is the aparent favorite of the three. his parents, though not the type to fond over anything, gave him most everything he could ever want, provided he put in some work for it. the best fabrics, best food, best toys; had he been an only child, he would most certainly grown up to be self-centered and vain, but he had two sisters to care for, as his parents refused to, and he was, above all, a responsible big brother. he would give his sisters his old toys, share his food with them, and whenever he grew out of old clothes, would either pass them down, or tear them apart to make new ones.
his kindness didn't stop at his sisters, however. though all three children were fairly sheltered, kohaku was very aware of what was going on outside the walls of the hakuryuu estate, how less fortunate people of the rukongai lived. as such, when his sisters were too old for toys and grew out of their clothes, kohaku ( sometimes occompanied by tatsu ) would sneak out of the house to deliver gifts to the children of the poorer areas of the rukongai. this tradition would continue on well into his captaincy, where much of his money would go into improving soul society in any way he could.
his ultimate downfall would be this kindness, along with his own tribulations. unbeknownst to anyone, including himself, kohaku would develop a mild case of paranoid schizophrenia early into his captaincy. within a few years, few people ever saw kohaku outside of the barracks or his home, he became prone to violent outbursts, and his health would take a fast decline. it's not quite clear if his eventual betrayal, fueled by the belief that those who held power in soul society are corrupt, was a cause of his delusions, strong moral compass, or a combination of both. since his exile, these symptoms have only gotten worse.
the youngest of the hakuryuu family, ryota and akemi always treated yuri as if she was an unnecessary child, not treating her harshly in any way, but essentially neglecting her her entire life. she was practically raised by her siblings, as her parents cared not about her, leading to a strong bond shared between the three of them.
she can be considered the spitting image of her mother; however, her more childlike appearance is a stark constrast to akemi, who was always noted for looking mature. to yuri, the only thing she inherited from her mother was her eyes, nothing else.
yuri was certainly the one who took tatsu and kohaku's " betrayal " the hardest, less so because of the betrayal itself, and more so because she feels as though they abandoned her. she understands that someone had to stay to remain head of the clan, something she would gladly have done, but she wishes they at least said goodbye to her before leaving.
though she feels abandoned, she holds no grudge against her siblings. she still cares deeply for them, and should she ever be called upon, will gladly help them in any way she could. she holds great respect for both of them, not because of their rank, but simply because they're her elder siblings. when asked about them, however, she will act far colder than she actually feels.
overall, yuri is quite your " typical teenage girl " in terms of personality. most of the clan's business is dealt with by her older relatives. while she maintains the ability to veto any decisions they try to make, she mostly acts as a figurehead of sorts, putting on the charade that the head family is still in charge.
If they stand behind you, give them protection.
If they stand beside you, give them respect.
If they stand if front of you, watch their back. And if they stand against you, show them no mercy.

RANDOM HEADCANONS.
despite both her parents ( and on occasion, her brother ) owning kiseru, tatsu never really saw the appeal of it. she’d probably have tried it at least once, most likely from kohaku, but because her sense of smell is fine-tuned thanks to tenryuu, she can’t stand it and wouldn’t try it again. so i guess the answer is yes, but only once.
