Sad dreams

I figured this was more a post for Tumblr, not Facebook... anyway.

I have this story I wrote... I’m sure anyone who follows me knows about some of my characters. One of them, the one I seem to have the most complicated relationship with is Lord Vo’larth. He’s a very very old, very powerful, cold and obdurate, typically deadpan, dominating kinda guy who seems like a villain but isn’t actually a bad guy.

Anyway he occasionally haunts my dreams. In my original story, he actually ends up doing something pretty horrible, and he’s very scary. But I digress.

Last night I fell asleep listening to my iPhone read the novel to me and I dreamt that I was a child again... maybe ten or twelve... I was back in my old bedroom in my parents old house, laying on my face on the floor surrounded by trash and dirty laundry... and Vo’larth was standing over me... I was groveling at his feet for some reason.

I could hear the part of the story being read aloud in my dream... and it seemed Vo’larth could hear it too. He went silent and listened to what I’d written for several moments. I felt so embarrassed for him to hear that.

He knelt down and gathered me up from the floor to hold me against him and he said he was sorry. He said he was sorry I turned out like this. He said he wished he could have protected me. Said he wished he could punish the people responsible...

I wish I could stop having dreams.
