Crowley "Halt's problem" Meratyn and Halt "Crowley's problem" O'Carrick
I've just realized something about Gilan
I think, and I believe most of the fandom agrees, that Gilan exudes sheer chaotic energy. Something about that man guarantees he is a menace when he wants to be. But, interestingly, whenever we see Gilan put into stressful situations in the series, Gilan keeps his shit together better than Halt does! He may be more expressive, but he takes far less drastic actions and covers all of his legal bases more thoroughly. By this I mean that Gilan, in that one short story I have forgotten the name of, gathered evidence and attempted to go through legal channels, where as Halt at roughly the same time period is straight up forging documents. Halt is way less afraid of getting in legal trouble, and therefore kinda just Does Shit, and Gilan doesn't.
This leads me to two conclusions
One, which is actually reasonable: Since we primarily see Gilan through the perspective of a young, impressionable apprentice who is almost always in a very scary situation, Gilan holds himself to a higher standard when around Will than when he is with his mentor. This leads to him looking more responsible to the audience than he actually is.
Two, which is much much funnier: Gilan saw past Halt's blank demeanor and actually realized how batshit insane he can be and went "Nope, not doing that", and now specifically tries to be more reasonable than his mentor. This is in direct contrast to Will, who picked up those behaviors immediately and simply does the same thing as Halt but with a massive smile on his face
I am pretty sure that the conversation between sixteen year old Gilan and his dad about what he should hypotetically do if he caught someone forging the royal seal went great
"And this is a strictly hypotetical situation?"
"Yes, strictly hypotetical."
"Gil," David sighs. "Are you in trouble?"
"...I really hope I am not."
Early morning Wales.
Easy-peasy. You can do it. Will releases a shaky breath. No, you can't. Where the hell is Halt?

Let's go into the forest~
Mossy road
One man may be deceit. Two can be conspiracy. Three is the number I trust.
Guys. I have questions. Whats your favorite drink? If there was one place in the world you could visit where are you going? Whats your favorite hobby? Whats the hobby you do the most often? Whats your least favorite chore and why? Tanning or swimming? Fruit or veggies? Candy or baked goods? Last song you listened to? The song or artist that you've liked since like the beginning of time? Whats your comfort food? Blankets or stuffed animals? Favorite color, or number, or both? Favorite and least favorite subject in school? One intricate, specific thing about yourself you think no one notices? Milk before or after the cereal? (there's a right answer to this one -_-) Jewelry or no jewelry? Most common accessory, or favorite accessory? If you could make one of your words, or phrases viral which one would it be, what does your word or phrase mean/when is it used, and why? Favorite quote? the last thing you picked up? When was the last time you left the house, and what did you leave for? Do you got oc's?
Thats all for now. I'll have more questions later. If you dare answer me share with more peeps. Make them answer questions too. @that-one-enby-ranger-2000 @thelittlerandomrooster @nightwingtheanimater @bunnymermaidsblog @picklesrangers @iwanttobepersephone @solarishashernoseinabook ummmmm @stella-lesair @silveroakleafdeer @araluenstories Imma just tag the whole fandom gimme a minute. @ragingadhd @ghostskies @natenotsogreat2 okay I think I got plenty for now. Peace out.
Oooooh these are great
What's your favorite drink? Coffee. Orange juice is in close succession.
If there was one place in the world you could visit where are you going? Patagonia, New Zealand, plains of Africa... which are all conveniently on the other side of the planet.
Whats your favorite hobby? Certified horse girl over here. I am afraid I can't consider it a hobby at this point, it really does consume my entire life.
Whats the hobby you do the most often? Other then horses? Dancing with my headpones at 2AM in my room. That's peak.
Whats your least favorite chore and why? Folding laundry, even goddamn ironing is better. It just takes an eternity, and you can do it again literally the second you take one thing out of your closet.
Tanning or swimming? Swimming. Slight 'sun allergy' over here, my skin is literally incapable of tanning I am afraid.
Fruit or veggies? Fruit. Strawberries are the best.
Candy or baked goods? Candyyy
Last song you listened to? You can't hurry love cover by Olivia Dean
The song or artist that you've liked since like the beginning of time? I feel like my taste has changed a lot over the years, and I also have the habit of liking just one or two songs by a single artist. At least, I can say that in the last few years, I've been only to two concerts and those were Hozier's and Tom Odell's.
Whats your comfort food? I do love a cinnamon roll.
Blankets or stuffed animals? Sherpa blankets are the besttt.
Favorite color, or number, or both? Petrol blue or burgundy. Seven for the number.
Favorite and least favorite subject in school? In high school (or the alternative we have over here), my favourite was essay writing in Czech (first language), least favourite, probably German (third language). In uni, favourite so far physiology, least favourite definitely histology. Hate that one with passion.
One intricate, specific thing about yourself you think no one notices? I don't know about this one tbh. I got quite an expressive face (by slavic standards haha) and consider myself being quite straightforward.
Milk before or after the cereal? (there's a right answer to this one -_-) AFTERR
Jewelry or no jewelry? Jewelry, but only for the last year or so.
Most common accessory, or favorite accessory? My sun necklace, given to me by my grandparents <3
If you could make one of your words, or phrases viral which one would it be, what does your word or phrase mean/when is it used, and why? I said "I need either a coffee or a shot, and at this point, I don't give a damn which one it's gonna be." during a morning class a few years ago, and it turns out "Coffee or a shot?" is a quite catchy phrase... now I realise this sounds quite like a Halt&Crowley conversation.
Favorite quote? I've been thinking about this for like ten minutes and literally the first thing that came to my mind was a scene from the Hobbit movies in which Bofur says I wish you all the luck in the world. to Bilbo, and I think I'll leave it at that eventhough it's probably not enough quote quote, but I really do love that scene.
the last thing you picked up? My phone and keys. Boring, I know.
When was the last time you left the house, and what did you leave for? A few hours ago, I went to a restaurant with my family.
Do you got oc's? Oh I doo. The only one that turned up in my fanfic already is Axel Silentheart, the Wolfwind healer. The next two that come to my mind are Asher and Lionel, Will's and Gilan's apprentices that showed up like ten years ago, and neither of them has made it into a story yet. I could continue, but I think Imma gonna leave it at that.

Apparently, on February 7th, John Flanagan passed away. The news was released only a few hours ago today. Rest in peace, John Flanagan, knowing that your creation will live a thriving life long after you. I hope the best will come of your children and your wife.

I've been wanting to do this scene for a while, and @that-one-enby-ranger-2000 suggested I do this back in my word blog. Here it is. I'm back to my old background-hating ways, because there's so much more I could have included in the picture, but I didn't want to detract from Will and Halt in the infamous Boar Scene.
Pawns and Kings (Words: 1,019) It was Halt’s mother who taught him how to play chess. She also told him never to underestimate the pawns.
or this was supposed to be just Halt being a badass, but inevitably turned into Crowley angst

I like Maddie, don't get me wrong. She grew on me, even though the first time I read the Royal Ranger, I felt like I was reading a fanfic. But you know what I think would be great instead? Will accidentally acquiring an apprentice while neither of them realizes it. It could be Maddie, it could be anybody else, (*blocking the door while one of my ocs is trying to barge in*), but imagine Will, still deep in his sulking after what happened to Alyss, keeps running into this fifteen-year-old. Hunting hares in the fields. Stealing Jenny's pies from their place on the windowsill where she leaves them to cool down. Climbing up to the tree crowns to pick the remaining cherries. At first, he says nothing. The kid is nervous around him, but they eventually start flashing him smiles when they realize he means no harm. And then Will finds himself asking questions and leaving advice. Which animal's tracks are these? You have to breathe evenly. Stay still, wait for her to leave. Then he finds one of his old bows from his apprentice years in the corner of the barn, where he leaves things he doesn't need anymore, and gives it to the kid because, really, the bow they have is awful if they are supposed to get better. This goes on for months, and Will doesn't realize he's going through a checklist of abilities the kid needs to master to pass their exams at the gathering and-
-and then Halt shows up and asks why Will hasn't updated the headquarters (read as Gilan) that he took an apprentice, and Will, freezing, goes, "I did what?!"
Halt: Pauline says we're like an old married couple
Crowley: Well, you are
Halt: No, not me and Pauline, you and me
Crowley: Oh
